Windshield replacement.

My car was hit by a rock on the windshield, and the chip extended quickly to several inches. Dealer quoted around $3000 for the replacement. The insurance company will cover up to $40/hr for labor, and they asked for proofs. Now, question is, where is the windshield logo? I was told to take a Logo photo:Logo photo, found on the bottom of the windshield driver, passenger or center and includes letters DOT.

The windshield logo/bug for a 2024 Mercedes Benz E450 is typically located in either the bottom left corner of the windshield, bottom right corner of the windshield, or bottom center of the windshield. Placing a piece of paper behind the logo on the inside of the glass can help you take a clearer photo of the logo.
But I don't see such a thing in any of these places.

Sorry to hear this. I have had two rocks hit the windshield and both were very loud. Each left a mark, but thankfully no crack. I've wondered how much it's going to cost to replace when I do get a crack. Do you have the sound and heat insulation glass?

On the logo/info. Are you saying you see nothing in the corners or just not the letters DOT? I'll look on mine and report back my own findings.

I don't think its sound and heat insulation glass. I believe that's offered in some comfort packages?
The insurance company expect something that shows letters DOT. I don't remember if I ever saw it in other cars.

If you don't have an emblem you don't have it.

Tell them. Also, sketchy request from them IMO.

Alternatively, find the same model/year vehicle take picture of DOT emblem.

I looked on my car and it's on the driver (left) side about 3 inches above the VIN plate. Mine has DOT22 as part of the stamp. One of the things I do whenever getting this info for others on the form such as in this thread is take pictures and save them in a folder for the car. I now have pictures of all 8 window bug's just to have them in the event I need them one day. Only one I didn't take is the roof which I'll look for and take pictures of later.

In my 2022 E450 All-Terrain, I have had to replace the windshield once, in early 2024. And it costed me $1600, all-inclusive (parts + labor, including Calibration), at the local dealer. Mercedes Benz OEM glass from the dealer.

When the parts department checked for availability, there was one unit available in Pennsylvania, and it took 2-3 days to arrive, before it got installed on the car.

Thanks! This isn't shown on my car. Checking with the dealer...

Yes, I searched around and saw $1xxx. Haven't seen $2xxx, and $3xxx is insane!

That's about the right cost. How long did you wait for Safelite to get the part from MB? Have you had the car calibrated by your dealer?

Yes, car has the Acoustic Comfort Package, and it was replaced with identical glass.

Local Safelite was able to get the glass in 2 days, held it for a week until I was able to get the car in, and they calibrated everything. They had the car for ~1.5 hrs.

Dealer needed 10 days to get it and I'm sure would have needed the car for a day.

Did your insurance cover it?

^ My current policy does not have specific glass coverage without deductible. Progressive said they would cover it regardless of where I took the car, but with a 1k deductible it was not worth filing a comp claim.

My W213 Wagon needed a windshield replacement due to a big rock and it cracked. I bought the windshield from MB at $1600 and an independent shop that does lots of premium car's windshields did the install for $700. My insurance would only cover $1500 so I paid the balance. They did a great job.

After two month I did replacement yesterday at Safelite. They ordered from MB and it was covered by my insurance, as far as 0 deductible, compared to coverage of $40/hr for labor only if I do it at a dealership. The technician replaced the glass and used some instrument from Bosch to do calibration, and it failed. After spending a couple hours I was asked to go back another day so that they would have more time to work on it. I agreed and hopped into my car and was just going to drive away, I noted significant waviness on the new glass. There was only a small area in front of the driver seat without it. They will have to get a replacement part from MB and run the procedure again.

it’s on the bottom right corner if you’re sitting inside the car in the drivers seat.

another way to put it, it’s in the passenger bottom corner of the windshield.

so if I get my windshield replaced by safe lite. You think they can get me the heat and sound insulated glass version? My 2024 e450 didnt have that option on it and kind of wish it did. Would there be any issues? Do you know the part number or something of reference so that they install the insulated glass version?

^ That’s a good question that I can’t answer…you would probably have to work with your local Safelite location (rather than order/book through the website or 800 line, which requires the VIN to get the ‘right’ glass for your car).

I will say that, at least in my experience with the W213 generation, I wouldn’t go through too much effort or expense to obtain a windshield from the Acoustic Comfort Package. While the whole package probably helps a bit with noise and heat, it also includes the rest of the glass and, from what I understand, more than just glass for the (minimal, if any) acoustic benefits. My black/black car gets hot as f when left in the sun, and I drove an E63 recently without ACP recently that did not seem any louder at highway speeds than my E450. And the ACP windshield hampers radar detector effectiveness and toll transponders; the ‘windows’ that are not glazed are not ideally located.

Yes, I was able to find it lately. There was the registration sticker right under it so I missed it.

Slightly off topic. Has anyone had their windshield repaired rather than replaced? I was at a Home Depot today and when I left there was a chip in the windshield with some internal cracks about an inch in diameter. There were several rocks (large gravel?) on the pavement nearby. It seems like someone spun out throwing rocks.

I had a Volvo wagon that had a similar crack only 2 weeks after I owned it new. Safelight was able to repair rather than replace and that windshield stayed on the car until I sold it. Also, the crack was virtually invisible after the repair. I’m sure it depends on the nature of the crack, but it’s worth exploring. Safelight came to my house and did the repair in less than an hour, as I recall.

Good news! No repairs required. My windshield and sensors will be replaced at my house on Friday with official MB parts at zero cost to me. Florida law waives any deductible that would otherwise be due.

Is anyone having trouble finding an OEM windshield for the GLC300? Every place I have tried says it is backordered.

I personally got a chip on the windshield repaired. Cost me $65, and the damage is not visible at all, with a cursory observation. Of course not all chips/cracks can be repaired, and the windshield will need a replacement, which they will tell you upfront, when they arrive for the repair.

In my case, my windshield also has the transparent 3M Crystalline film on it, and that in turn costs nearly as much as the windshield, and so a quick repair is what I personally would prefer.
