Every time I drive by Sams fuel station, cars are backed up waiting in line to get gas. I drive one mile farther down the road and get gas at Walmart. It may be 2 cents more a gallon but I don’t have to sit in line for 10 minutes. I’ve never had any engine damage from any brand of gas.

I did 730 miles or so, amazed me! So probably gas quality differs by locations. Wait, you are in Long Island. Which Costco do you use? I only tried Riverhead.

Interesting to see the Top Tier rating. Is the quality anything related to mpg? I used Costco few times and mpg was horrible (not on MB). Now I've been using Sams and I once got around 40 mpg and more than 700 miles range - of course I drove on highway mostly and I had to drive gently. Usually I get 6xx miles.

On a recent road trip I was refueling daily with various gasoline brands. I noticed many of the major brands are now placing "top tier" decals on their pumps as an advisory. Licensing a "top tier" certication label costs every gasoline supplier money, and is contrary to the discounting strategy of Costco and Sam's. This doesn't mean these discounted brands aren't quality fuels. Some folks swear by Royal Purple engine oil, which costs 1/3 more than any other brand at Walmart, yet RP carries no approvals for any German autos -- does that mean it's crap? So we're all confused.
