How To Clean Engine in W214?

Hi Everyone,

My 2024 E350 is about 11 months old (7,900 miles), and I usually clean the engine bay on my cars once a year. My question is, how should I do it? On my old 2015 S550, I used simple green (50/50 with water), and just sprayed it on the engine and let it sit for 3-5 minutes tops. Then practically hosed it off and then used a leaf blower to dry it, started the car up and drove like 5 minutes tops to make sure everything was ok. Never ran into a problem.

The only problem I ever ran into was when I did my mom's car about 12 years ago when she had her 2003 Lincoln Town Car. I washed her engine, the Check Engine Soon light came on for 2 days then went away. But as far as my Mercedes, I never had a problem.

Does this sound ok? It's not super dirty, but definitely dusty. Just want to keep it pristine like the rest of my car.

Thanks in advance!

I never spray water into the engine compartment because it can force moisture into places that should not get wet. On occasion I've removed leaves and other debris by hand. A little dust doesn't hurt the vehicle's operation. That's it.

With a new car like yours all that is needed is a damp microfiber. Use some detailing spray after the damp wipe down.

No, I would not spray water in the engine bay. I wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth every so often when I wash the car. It stays clean and no need for a hose. When I change the oil, I also wipe it down a bit. If you need a degreaser on the W214, something is very wrong.

Agree - this is all I ever do. Dort won’t hurt but water might.
