2025 E53. Just bought, questions

I picked up our new E53 yesterday.
Got the same color as the 450 we replaced, moonlight white, with black Napa leather, 21” wheels, driver assistance package, multi contour seats, AMG night package plus and pinnacle trim
been reading the manual and setting things up but I’m confused by the function of the dials on the steering wheel. I think I understand the right hand one, basically select driving mode, but the left hand one is confusing the heck out of me. Are those settings independent of what you are doing with the right hand wheel? I can call the dealer but thought I’d ask here first.

thanks in advance

No they are not. The drive mode as you select on the right side needs to be thought of as a profile. It configures each component with a particular setting. With the left hand one you can then override/change the individual settings. So for example if you select Sport+ on the right side, this will among other things put the suspension in its stiffest setting, then if you suddenly hit some rough patch of road, you can put the suspension setting on one of the left hand buttons and temporarily change the suspension to Comfort w/o having to change the overall drive mode. This is very useful. For example I mostly drive in Individual mode which sets my suspension to Sport, transmission to M etc.. But then when I drive longer distances or I have passengers in my car, I use the left controls to switch the suspension to Comfort, but leave the car in Individual mode. This way I keep all the other settings in my preferred configuration, but I can temporarily make the ride more comfortable.

Thank you very much indeed. This is exactly what I needed and thank you for making your answer so understandable! Your scenarios make perfect sense, now back to the manual.

thanks again
