Surprise response from MBUSA regarding W214 E53 oil specs

Some forum members may recall that I mentioned writing to MBUSA on 7-May-2025 about the incorrect oil specifications for the W214 E53 Hybrid in both the hardcopy and online versions of the owner's manual. Specifically, the online manual incorrectly calls for 229.71 or 229.72 grade oil, a 0W-40 or 5W-40 viscosity, and a capacity of 6.0 liters. The correct specs are 229.51 or 229.52 grade oil, a 0W-40 viscosity, and a capacity of 7.3 liters.

I exchanged several emails with MBUSA and was repeatedly told that my concerns were forwarded to the E53 product team. I expressed my disbelief that it could take so long to correct what I considered a serious error. Today, 12-Aug-2025, I received an email informing me that the online manual would be corrected and thanking me for bringing the matter to their attention. They also included a $100 credit to be used for parts or service at any Authorized Mercedes-Benz Dealership.

Cashed in my $100 discount offer at the dealer today against a purchase of 229.52 0W-40 oil and filter. The dealership had never seen this type of email "coupon" offer and it took 30 minutes to verify the validity of the email with MBUSA. The SA I normally work with on service visits asked why I was in the parts department. When I told him about the email exchange with MBUSA he chuckled and said a $100 discount would not get very much here.
