Genuine MB Edge Guard for W214 sedan trunk sill

Everytime someone would offer to help me with my wife's rollator I would get one more scratch in the trunk sill as the wheel was dragged across it. I unsuccessfully tried ti polish out the scratches and started looking for a sill guard. I found several W214 specific products on Amazon ranging in price from $90 to $150. They are generally available in chrome, black or carbon fiber finishes. The photos of the black version usually had streaks across the surface so I was reluctant to order one.

Then I stumbled across a genuine MB edge guard (PN 214-693-29-00) at a reasonable discounted price of just over $70.

The MB part is only available in chrome. But since it picks up the body color in its reflections it does not look that bad.

I ordered my E450 with it. The VPC that installed it messed up and it had to be redone after I took delivery and noticed it. It was coming up on both ends and after looking carefully, it was off center about an inch to the right. Turns out, there was a deep scratch in the paint just off the right edge and it may have been purposely installed off center to hide it. Or they tried to remove it to center it and caused the scratch and decided to leave it. Dealership had it removed, buffed all the glue off and when the new one arrived. Repainted the bumper and installed it properly. I drove it about a month without it and prefer the look with it there. It looks great and protects the sill as well.

How close to the edge of the bumper is the edge guard installed on your car? I positioned it about 1cm in from the edge. Some of the aftermarket products roll over the edge.

Mine may be just a little more than a cm from the edge. I didn't measure but I would guess 1.5cm.

The edge guard is noticeably fared upwards on both ends to match the shape of the bumper sill. It's not surprising that it worked its way loose if installed off center.
