Removed E53 side skirt chrome trim to “grey” it out with 3M Silver.

I have unsuccessfully tried to remove the chrome trim from the side skirts of my W214 E53 several times. I tried again today using a slightly different approach. I started by prying the pointed end of the rear piece away from the side skirt using plastic trim removal tools, same as I had on previous attempts. As soon as the first snap-lock tab was slightly visible, I liberally sprayed it with Meguiar’s Waterless Wash & Wax. Once the tab was lubricated, I was able to work it free enough to expose the next tab. I sprayed each tab as its location became apparent and carefully pulled the trim away from the side skirt.

The rear piece of chrome must be removed first since it overlaps the front piece by about 1/4”. I used the same approach on the front chrome trim starting with the pointed end. With the trim removed it was fairly easy to apply the 3M Silver wrap. Reinstalling the trim is not very difficult.

BTW, the chrome trim has part numbers for both the W214 and W206 AMG side skirts.

I plan to eventually wrap my chrome trim pieces on the E450 wagon, with black wrapping. Essentially, give it a "night package" look.
