2025 E350

I live north of the Detroit area. The local MB dealer has two E350's on the lot, fairly nicely equipped, MSRP in the low 70's Both have been there for a long time; one has been there for over 6 months. It seems as if these vehicles are very slow sellers, is that accurate?

Apparently yes. Detroit area does not love imports.

That is not really correct there are lots of imports off all types sold around here. But not those two E350's I alluded to.

In a word, yes. Vehicle sales are down all over (high prices and high interest rates). Sedan sales have been declining in favor or Crossovers and SUVs for some time.
But this is good news for you. If you're a buyer, the dealer should be offering a nice discount to 1. sell last year's model, and, 2.. sell a slow moving model.

Of the 13.6 million new cars sold in Detroit in 2024, approximately 8.1 million (60%)were assembled in North America and 5.5 million~(~40%) were not. The top selling cars assembled here were Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet in that order. MB sold 324.528 new cars (~2.4%) in Detroit in 2024.

Me either. But, like Mom said, "If you can't say anything nice...
Actually, reports are that Detroit is experiencing a economic and urban revival. And besides, where else can you drive SOUTH to get to Canada.

Actually, the outskirts of Detroit, I mean the areas surrounding Detroit are very nice places to live. Obviously, you freeze during the winter but that's when I go to Florida anyway. There's no reason to set foot in the city unless you want to, for whatever reasons. The suburbs have everything you want times ten.
Plus, you can't overlook that the golf in the State of Michigan is fantastic.

IIRC Detroit is near Jason's in Windsor.
I was last there in the mid-80's.

Well, for one, this area has one of the largest car cultures in the country, and that includes all types of cars.
Also, if you wanted to design cars for a living, and stay in the country- which I did- this was the place to be. We may not have the oceans of either coast (though the Great Lakes come close) but then we don't have their cost of living...

Nope, they do not come close :-)

That said, I have spend hundreds of hours on the lakes on our boat (Sundance 490) spent year after year on the UP (Porkies) and love the UP. I had to flee the midwest (as a business owner). Now? Well, central FL. I am 60 min from the Gulf of America. I am 60 min from tbe Atlantic Ocean...my "costs" are less than half the Chicago burbs and we have no state income tax! Property tax is wicked low. Plus some pretty cool personal property laws that protect our homes...(just ask OJ and the others who move here!)

Oh, while I am on that rant....who all saw the Whistlin Diesel arrest video? Wow...yeah. TN would be WAY out of the question for me now as well.

The property taxes on my condo (which I bought in 2007) are quite high (not a FL resident) My HOA fees are through the roof. Insurance is very high down there.

Insurance here has always been an issue due to risks associated with adverse weather. Property taxes are lower in Florida than the national average and may be eliminated for residents via a referendum vote next year. That being said, the emphasis here has always been on shifting the tax burden to non-residents as much as possible. Thus, we have sales taxes instead of income tax; large property tax exemptions for residents; and higher education tuition for out of state students is 3 times higher than for in state students.

Personally, I don't have large HVAC or utility expenses because my condo's sliding doors are open 10 months of the year. I find that it is relatively inexpensive living in Florida versus my relatives living in the mid-west. My biggest expense is HOA followed by insurance - home owner & auto.

EDIT - I have excluded personal expenses and health care costs.

Some people like chocolate ice cream, some people like vanilla, some like strawberry, and so on. And some people don't like ice cream. Live where you want and enjoy life. Nobody should give a ***** what someone else thinks about where you choose to live.
