AC Loud E53

Hi all,

Any other E53 owners with really loud AC vents? For some reason the driver side center vent is particularly loud and sometimes even sounds like there's blockage but with air coming out. Strange problem and never had that before in any car. Usually AC is supposed to be pretty quiet unless you're turning it up all the way on a hot day which is not the case.

Thanks

OK so I guess my car is the only one with weird AC behavior? I will take it to the dealer, but everyone else's E53s have quiet AC when air is coming out?

Outside of digital vents for some E53 models, the AC is the same for all the W214's so I wouldn't limit your search to just E53's? My E450 is quiet and I rarely hear it at all.

Have you changed the direction of the vents to see it there is any changes in sound? If the vent blades themselves are the cause, you would expect that moving them around would have some effect on it. If they don't, then maybe it's further down in the vent.

Yes I have the digital vents in my car and suspect it has something to do with it as there is no change when I move the vents around myself but the AC does quiet down a bit when I use the controls on the screen.

Have you tried shining a light in there to see if there is something stuck in there? Maybe some of the protective materials used for shipping got stuck in there. If you have a borescope you could look a bit deeper. That's likely what the dealership would do unless there is a bulletin out that describes this exact problem and the fix. A borescope is not expensive and nice to have for all sorts of things. Assuming you are a DIY type of person and likes to figure stuff out.

I was surprised at how loud fan speed 2 was…then I took it off AUTO and manually adjusted it to fan speed 2…now it is appropriately quiet.
