How to remove Distronic Mercedes Star from W214 E53?
My understanding is that the Distronic Mercedes Star on the W214 E53 grille can be removed by attaching a cup suction tool to the face of the star and twisting it 15 degrees counterclockwise. Can anyone confirm this is the case? I can't get the star to budge. I am wondering if there are some locking tabs on the back side that need to be disengaged. I want to remove the chrome trim on the perimeter of the star and apply 3M Sterling Silver trim to it in order to match the other chrome pieces I have already wrapped.
Also, if the star is removed, must the Distronic radar be recalibrated even if the same star is reinstalled?
There are some locking tabs, but they will disengage when you turn the star. Usually the star will come off in 2 pieces. The backing plate and the star trim. You have line them up together to re-install.
I did the same on my SL550 with Distronic and nothing had to be re-calibrated after the re-install.
