Maybe charging is similar so users don't have to worry about the nuance of properly charging the EV battery.
From what I know, there's always a reserve capacity, so 0 is not actually a 0. However, 100 is a 100...

my understanding is that the plug-ins are set up to properly and always charge to 100% safely. My last car was a BMW X5 plug in hybrid which did fine (little or no capacity lost) for 4 years of charging this way - and it was the consensus amongst those users to the same.

the range is already quite low on plug ins, so volunteering to have less seems silly. You never really “need” the extra electrical range, so why would anyone ever opt not to do the max?

I understand your logic but Mercedes itself is not recommending to charge to 100%... It's about battery health, not those extra few miles you can squeeze by charging to 100%...
Edit: your logic could be used both ways, why risk battery health because of few extra miles?

Also: the battery has a 10-year warranty (varies based on where you live) and the odds of me having this vehicle that long is very very low.

The warranty does not cover reduced capacity but I suspect you know that...
Also, this was not the point of my original post. This turns into the argument for the sake of one. I'm out...

I've noticed the search function on this forum has been kinda wonky lately, even on my newer S-Class. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I've had to sift through pages of unrelated threads just to find a decent DIY guide. Anybody else having issues with the search bar?
