Stuck at the VPC

My 2026 E450 seems to be stuck at the VPC in Brunswick because of a "mod for upper panel" Not sure what this means or whether I should worry. It arrived at the VPC 10 days ago and they are not telling the dealer when it will be released.
Anyone know what this could be?

Now they say they need parts and it will be at least into next month before release.

Sorry to hear, this must be so frustrating for it to be tantalizing close and yet no delivery date. Did they say why it needs parts or what happened?

I've run into this situation before. The info I found at the time was that there is lots of customization being done to meet North American requirements.

Cue the "it must have come unchained and pinballed around the hull of the ship all the way across the Atlantic and will now be patched together and passed off to you" crowd...

My 2026 E450 was delivered to Baltimore on May 23. Today the dealer confirmed it still hasn’t gone through US Customs. Any ideas on what’s going on?

2 or 3 weeks at the VPC is normal.

Fore reference I just took delivery of a 2026 E53 AMG, arrived at the same port (Baltimore) on May 23, 2026, entered VPC later that day, stayed in VPC until 05/29/2026, it was then released to the carrier and arrived at my dealership on 06/01/2026. The last few weeks/days are the most annoying part of this process imo, but you are close.

Thanks for the information! Yes it is annoying. Glad you got yours a few days ago. I’m being told ETA at dealership is 6/11-6/17. Seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the logistics timeline.

Did your car arrive on the Arc Honor vessel by chance, the date lines up with when mine arrived as well?

IMO it depends upon what options need to be addressed at the VPC and/or US Customs clearance. My last car was delayed a couple of weeks waiting for a part from Germany.

I have read elsewhere that the new laws on imports and tariffs are causing delays as paperwork is being scrutinized more closely. Not sure if this is correct or just someone searching for a plausible explanation. In any event it shouldn’t’ be too much longer. Cheers!

My situation still is that they are waiting for parts for the "mod of overhead panel". Today the answer from the VPC is still no ETA. Not a good process.

I’m still waiting also. To recap: arrived in Baltimore 5/23. Was released to a car carrier finally on 6/11. Still no word today. Maybe I should ask for a 2027 model now!

Until you accept the predelivery inspection in most car purchase contracts, you have the ability to cancel the purchase. Purchasing a 2026 model today is already depreciated a year. This late in the model year I would consider renegotiating the price.

Stuck at Baltimore VPC - E53e April 2026 Build

After weeks of wondering what was going on with my 2026 AMG E53, I finally got a little more information from my dealer that may be helpful for anyone else with an E53 currently sitting at a VPC.

My car arrived at the Baltimore VPC around Memorial Day and has now been there for roughly three weeks with no visible movement. The dealer's status screens have basically shown the same thing the entire time: "In Process" at the VPC.

The update I received today is that Mercedes is apparently waiting on a software flash that is affecting E53e models. According to the information passed along from their MB representative, vehicles cannot be wholesaled or released from the VPC until the software update is completed and the hold is cleared.

The good news is that it doesn't sound like a parts shortage, transportation issue, damage repair, or anything catastrophic. The bad news is that nobody seems willing (or able) to provide an ETA yet.

I completely understand that quality holds and software campaigns are part of modern vehicle launches, especially with the amount of technology packed into these cars. Still, after tracking this thing from production through shipping and getting all the way to the last step before delivery, it's a little painful watching it sit there day after day.

For reference, this is a Sonoran Brown / Tonka Brown E53e (April 2026 Build) that has become something of an obsession for me over the past couple of months since placing the order. At this point I'm equal parts excited and impatient.

Has anyone else with a 2026 E53e heard about this software flash? Are there any MB insiders, dealer personnel, VPC veterans, or recent buyers who have gone through a similar situation and can shed some light on how these holds typically play out? I found a nugget of info online about "26V281 Campaign 2026050004" which I think is that prior announced recall about the infotainment control unit going into a reset loop.

I'm hopeful this is just one final hurdle before delivery, but I'd love to hear if others are seeing the same thing or have any additional insight. More importantly - any have a guess as to when the software update is made available for loading and clearing through the queues?

2026 E53 Wagon; 2011 G37 Convertible
Good luck with getting your wagon from the VPC...not sure why such a new build needs a "flash", but of course I have nothing to do with car manufacturing. Mine stayed at the Brunswick VPC for about 10 days even though it was a "priority 1" status...

But I gotta tell you, get used to compliments when you start driving it!!! I have a Sonoran brown wagon too (black nappa) and I constantly get compliments on both the wagon AND the color...

Are these vehicles shipped with protective film for the paint? Sitting for weeks at a busy shipping port and underneath the arrival corridor of a major airport would leave the paint covered in soot and other contaminants.

That's a good point. I assume Mercedes has procedures for protecting and inspecting vehicles that spend extended periods at the VPC, but I hadn't really considered the environmental exposure aspect. I'm guessing that this happens a lot - and I'm assuming that they know what they are doing when it comes to that part of the logistics. Believe me, I will be doing a thorough walk through before accepting the car.

My bigger concern at the moment is understanding the software flash hold that the dealer's MB representative referenced.

...or making sure the battery on PHEV's aren't drained fully...

Battery Maintainer / Battery Tender on 12V Battery

What I understand that is that shouldn't be worry about the main PHEV battery, but the traditional 12V battery. I think the owner's manual talks about cars parked and sitting around without a battery maintainer (battery tender or another battery maintenance program) can suffer damage to the 12V battery for "exhaustive" discharge. While 4 weeks may not sound like it would be damaging, I'll make sure it gets checked or replaced before I take delivery.

Mine was held (with many others) at the VPC for 11 weeks last fall/winter for some sort of module. Annoying, but it happens.
