Digital Light Action

Hi folks. As I've already mentioned, I've got a brand new EQE SUV model year 25. Before I purchased this vehicle, I watched many videos and read a lot about the new Digital Light system. My understanding is that there are many functions that it is capable of that are not available on US Mercedes-Benz cars at this time due to regulations. Can anyone cut through all of the fluff that's out there and tell me exactly what functions this system can and cannot perform right now on US cars?

I drove my EQE in the dark last night and was not particularly happy with what I was seeing so far. First, there is an annoying jagged line on the top cutoff/edge of the lightfield when not using the brights. Secondly, the brights seem to shut off at the most inopportune times for no apparent reason

I must say at this time I am much more impressed with the older Multibeam lighting system on my 2022 GLS 450. Grateful for any information anyone can provide in this regard. Thank you all again.

That is strange, it is supposed to be brighter than the older one though.

I'll second the cutoff on these systems. We have digital light on my sedan, and standard LED lights on the SUV. The SUV's cutoff is a lot less severe as it has reflectors. I think newer versions of these lights have more severe cutoff due to requirements for not blinding others. In all other countries, Digital Light runs in high beam as much as possible with the black-out boxes for oncoming traffic, people, cars ahead of you, and signs. This is not the case in the US, as regulations still haven't caught up. Barriers were supposed to be removed two years ago, but everything is still a technical mess when it comes to figuring out what's possible and what's not.

Furthermore, in the US, maximum brightness is regulated to be a lot lower than in Europe. Thus, the Digital Light systems must trim power output. It's part of the reason for the "fang marks" you see in the light pattern on low beam mode. Spots that have been intentionally marked out. It's annoying, but honestly, I've gotten used to it by now. I like the range, and especially the high beam performance of Digital Light, but I must say, having a less severe cutoff as on the SUV with standard LED reflectors is less annoying in certain situations where the road might dip, and where the cutoff is just too low to be helpful in some cases. It is an adjustment, but if you go back to other vehicles with more primitive lighting, you'll realize just how powerful the Digital Light is. The cutoff ends up being more of an issue in our heads because of the way it looks than actually missing light where it should be.

Agree 100% I wonder if MB will ever rollout the additional features to existing vehicles when the regs get sorted out. Hope so. It's only software, after all.

Time to just get it coded instead then.

Only if the coding is reasonable in cost.

As of now, everyone is charging you arms and legs to do the coding. And you risk wiping out the coding for any software updates.

I forgot that they are not exactly coding MUBX 2 and MBUX 3 vehicles right now, I heard there is a licensing issue?

Has anyone actually coded a 2025EQE SUV in order to activate the full Digital Light system? I have looked at the website for RJ Automotive and this particular product is marked as "sold out". I have emailed them to inquire, but have never received a response. Grateful for any information you all can provide. Thank you again.

Coding is always available.
But at what cost? Coding EQS headlights is very expensive. Very very expensive. Lowest price I got was over US$2,000 when I checked last month.
I'm somewhat spoiled, as I programmed the Active Matrix lights myself on my Porsche Cayenne.

Price dropped, but true, it is still expensive, a few hours remote work.
