Cruise Control Activation Nuisance

Hi folks. I've got a 2025 EQE SUV and it has a small issue that's a continuing annoyance. Often times when I push the steering wheel button to engage the cruise control to hold a specific speed, it does not immediately "stick" and I need to push it 2-3 times before it sets. For comparison, when I engage the cruise control on my 2022 GLS 450 with the same button (a mechanical switch as opposed to a membrane switch on the EQE), it always engages immediately.

My impression is that the EQE software requires several conditions to be met before the cruise will engage and that sometimes it takes a few seconds for these permissive to be satisfied. It can be a little frustrating to push the button 3-4 times to set the desired speed.

Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, can anyone explain what is going on here? Thanks!

If your fingers are dry, or you have a skin condition (e.g., dishydrosis of the hands), the capacitive button has trouble picking up that you made contact, even if you push down and engage the actual switch for the button array. I rarely have the problem, believe it or not my issue tends to be with the "cancel" button, but the closer to winter it becomes, the worse the issue seems to occur. You might try cleaning the button array with some water and a microfiber to see if something is worsening the capacitive response.

You would also want to check that you are not touching any areas with your fingers/palm/hand on the same panel, as it checks where the touch is to figure our what operation to perform. I do find that my fingers may be resting on another part so the intended operation doesn't happen.
Eg, I'm "pressing" resume/set, but have parts of my finger resting on cancel, so it doesn't detect as a resume button press.

There is one button on each side of the steering wheel. A capacitive sensor figures out *where* you are pressing on that button. It's a big cost saving measure. Two buttons (and horn + paddles) on the entire wheel. And remember, you have capacitive volume control as well.

As another experiment, lightly touch the Distronic distance adjustment area, you'll see the display show you the current distance setting in upper left. It's just one big button, then the capacitive sensor tells the car which button section you have selected.
