US EPA Ranges

Scoured lots of dealer sites and found stickers for all the models. These are the EPA ranges I found:

350+ RWD: 305 miles
350 4Matic/500 4Matic: 260 miles
AMG: 225 miles

Really surprised at how low the ranges are for the 4Matic models. The 350 4Matic is listed at 86 MPGe and 39 kWh/100 miles. The 500 4Matic is only a little less at 83 MPGe and 41 kWh/100 miles.

For comparison, the EQS 450 4Matic is at 103 MPGe and only 33 kWh/100 miles for a range of 340 miles.

Can you de-couple the front motor of the 4matics when on the highway? I've heard mention of this from my dealer and I've seen mention of it in a review somewhere, but haven't heard any "hard evidence" that this is possible.

The decoupling is automatic. However, I'd read in a recent article that as of now, that decoupling is disabled. I'm not sure there is a huge advantage from doing so anyway, as the motor with better RPM profile gets more power at different speeds anyway, save for acceleration and when AWD is demanded by ESP. It also may present a reliability issue, so it may be better it's always engaged.

I found this on the press release for the EQE SUV:

To further increase the range, the electric motor at the front axle can be completely decoupled. This step is undertaken by what is known as the Disconnect Unit (DCU). The intelligent disconnection system works complete automatically depending on the driving situation and the required output. At low loads, the DCU switches into 4x2 driving mode, and both the electric motor and the relevant transmission at the front axle cease operation. This ensures that the drag losses otherwise normally experienced are largely eliminated.
I don't see that in the EQE sedan press materials. With the heat pump and the DCU, I wonder if the EQS Suv might have equivalent or even higher EPA range than the sedan.

I'll reserve final judgement until we see more real range tests but the only one I've seen for the US so far has gotten 292 miles on the highway which is more in line with what I was expecting.

My understanding is that the de-coupling feature is on the EQE SUV variant only.
