PPF and Ceramic Coating
I dropped off our EQS 580 SUV at Apex Auto Detailing this morning for PPF on the grill and front bumper and ceramic coating. We get it back Wednesday, I'll post some pics.

What are the approximate costs to get these done? Just curious.
The PPF is the clear plastic that protects against rock chips - correct? This is basically done on the hood, bumper, etc on the front.
The XPEL is the full color wrap where you can pretty much make the car look completely different color or take the existing color and make it the flat looking color as well - correct?

there are a few different brands of ppf film(3M, xepl, suntek)
I did some research over the weekend and the xpel seemed like a better quality.
the body shop can just apply it on front or the entire car depending on how much money you are willing to spend
I called around few different shops and the cost to just to the front is around 2200. To cover the full car with this xpel ppf i got quoted around 7-8k.
looks like this is the going rate for my area(NYC)
Call the shop and ask what brand of ppf they are using. I would definitely want to know what brand of film they are applying to my new car

2023 EQS 580 SUV Selenite Grey
We are getting XPEL Ultimate Plus on the grill and front bumper also. Anyone doing the headlights? I am considering the hood and potentially the black lower rockers and wheel trim around the EQS 580?
Which ceramic coating are you all getting (gyeon, ceramic pro, or other)?

I believe it is beneficial to get the front of the car covered with PPF. In the old days it impacted the color, but not anymore. You can ceramic coat over as well. As for ceramic coating. I am of the opinion that there is a lot of hyperbola associated with the process. My 2017 Acura NSX had it done. It requires update every year otherwise the warranty is not good. Personally, I just purchased some on the internet and applied it myself. This is really not rocket science. I am a chemist by education and there is nothing I have read about the process that makes it worth what some will charge. It will not protect against scratches. Yes it repeals water. A good carnauba wax job will do the same. The film works, the ceramic coating not so much. Much of why it looks so good after getting coated is that the good shops will clean, polish, and clay bar the paint. Some will actually color sand the car which removes the orange peel look. Get the front including the hood covered, as it does help protect the paint from chips. In the old days we would just repaint the hood. Now with the more elaborate paint colors matching the paint takes a bit of work. On our Tesla I purchased 3M Pro film precut for our 2020 Tesla and applied it myself. It takes a bit of work, but it costs a whole lot less. Where it is challenging is on areas that require stretching and a lot of hand work. So having a pro do it is probably worth it.

- $425 for the PPF on the grill and front bumper
- $1075 for ceramic coating (includes coating the PPF)

Brian is the owner and I found him to be an honest business man. My neighbor is a huge car guy (owns 4 vehicles) and had Apex paint-correct and ceramic coat his BMW 2002 classic. It looked perfect! He checked out every detailer within a 50 miles and settled on Apex, not just because they had the most reasonable pricing, but their customer interaction was great. I agree.
