4g not 5g
I just got confirmation that the 2023 EQS line only has 4g service capability. 5g will be included on systems that have MBUX 8. Also TMobile is the cellular provider.

And that's not surprising. What many don't know is that not all 5G is the same. When it comes to 5G there are three flavors. Millimeter-wave, low band and mid band. Low band is what's currently rolled out mostly for mobile phone use, but its speed is only on occasion faster than LTE. The really fast speeds that keep getting touted with 5G require millimeter-wave, but that has major downsides. Biggest one is it only works over short distances and has trouble penetrating even leaves. That's more of a candidate for fixed mobile broadband or local hotspots. On the broad spectrum, the 5G you get on mobile phones today isn't really faster than LTE.

I should have typed MBUX 8. The MBUX is the info entertainment system that Mercedes uses. As for 5g. I got to tell you that my apple 13 pro max became so much faster in terms of downloading websites etcetera when I paid extra for 5g service through ATT. I was able to see the before and after. Big difference in my mind. Not saying what you are saying is incorrect. I am just reflecting on my experience. 4g should be around for sometime. I just felt given this is a high end vehicle and an all new electric to boot, that they should have used 5g. I believe the new IX50 has 5g from BMW. I think there are a few other manufacturers who are going with 5G.
Select model year 2024 cars and trucks will therefore be equipped with 5G connectivity pre-installed, and General Motors explains the upgraded speed will be available for infotainment, navigation, and of course, over-the-air software updates that will make it easier for the automaker to release improvements for its models. We should see these vehicles in 2023. So car companies are going forward.
