Snow chains / cables anyone?

Was wondering if anyone has heard from MB about the proper style and use of snow chains or cables …?

I’ll be contacting my dealer soon about this.

I know this was a while ago, but did you ever get an answer to this? I have 580 suv with 275-45-21 tires and was wondering what kind of chains I can get to go with it.

Just looking at the tires, with the car raised there is plenty of space on the rear tires.

IMO, when weather and road conditions are so bad that tire chains are necessary, you should seriously consider not driving. However, if you believe tire chains are imperative, buy a set and do a trial install in the comfortable well-lighted safety of your garage. Then extrapolate the experience to a dark highway shoulder in the middle of a blizzard with the back splash from passing traffic, and fingers so cold you can no longer feel them. I'll take the comfy chair in front of the warm fireplace in my den.

I agree, but we do have to carry chains when going through passes (Seattle area) even if they are not required at the time. As you said, if it got to a point where chains are required on all vehicles now then most likely road is getting closed anyway so I have no intention of driving there. After this post, I saw that tire socks are also approved to be carried for vehicles that can't use chains so I got one of the approved sets instead. I still have no intention of using them

Tire chain laws vary state to state (see https://nhhservices.com/chain-laws-by-state/), and several (including Colorado, where I live) require certain tire types or traction devices to be used on certain roadways during certain weather conditions. Chain laws are quite restrictive for commercial vehicles, and several (including Colorado) require commercial trucks to carry chains at all times during certain seasons. I was not aware that some states require passenger vehicles to carry chains all times. Still, there's not a reason I can think of that warrants venturing out in threatening weather. You might be well equipped, but several others will not be, and they'll ruin your day.
