I have had two minor over the air updates but this is the first time my 580 SUV has been back to the dealership since October 2022.

 

As in years past when you would buy a dozen rolls or cookies at the local bakery and they would throw in a 13th. for free! 😊

 

Utopia: Are you saying 316.xx was just installed on your car? That’s 2 versions old as far as I can tell. Latest version is 330.xx. My 23 580 sedan delivered in early December came with E316.xx. It was updated to E329.xx shortly afterward. Members are posting E330 as latest update.

Sorry, I was editing while you were typing. Honestly, I didn’t have 316 long enough to notice a big difference when they installed 329. And from what I’m reading on this forum, I’m not all that sure what 330 adds to the picture. But I’m one of those people who feel that they created an update to fix something or add an additional feature so I tend to ask for updates if available even if I’m not experiencing any particular problem.

 

Hmmm that is very strange I wonder why your dealership just bumped up a version and not put the latest one on it.

 

I think it adds the Mercedes Me Store? Or does it just suddenly pop up without any updates? I wonder if the 316 already included the "Module update to prepare and enable further updates" somewhere along those lines. Basically they had a module I guess dormant that is in charge of updating other modules, and therefore they released an update to allow that module to function.

 

I can’t answer that question. I have been extremely happy with this SUV and would still be happy with no updates at all. I cannot really think of anything else I would want it to do. Maybe MB will surprise me on the next update.

When I went to the dealer today about my 12v battery issue, I mentioned your experience to my service assistant with your recent upgrade. He also felt it strange that they didn’t update you to version E330. I asked him what was different between 329 and 330 he didn’t know the specifics. I then asked how do I know if 330 would help me. He basically said that they would have to hook up the car to the computer to see if there are any issues and the computer would advise them that an update is available.
So I’m with you. If the car is running fine and you are happy, that’s all that counts.

 

It finally dawned on me why the front camera replacement was so expensive and why it cannot be covered with something like Xpel for rock chip protection. Unlike the other static cameras the front one pivots the lens with the steering wheel and is a bit more complex. Also since the lens moves within the mount just like a human eye moves in its socket any plastic covering would hamper its use.

 

Are you sure it moves?
I don't think so. Its field of view is 180 degree, so any movement you see is just shifting a zoomed area of the camera image.

 

For that price you can get a Nikon camera with telezoom lens and still have money for a nice lobster and steak dinner////
