3 sec to pass a semi On an ICE 2 secs to downshift and rev 3 sec more to pass the truck. You obviously haven't driven an EV. That why on acceleration from 50 mph EVs leave cars with bigger numbers behind with ease. A more powerful car will catch it, but by then who cares? By then they are well over 100mph. Have you driven the 450? My obvious conclusion is no since you don't have a clue. The car is FAST, period. Again, as fast or faster than 90 percent of the cars on the road. Even an entry porsche Macan is slower, you know Porsches are just slowww.

Well, let's leave it there. We clearly have different backgrounds in cars and that includes EVs. You are comparing things to a Honda Accord apparently while I DD AMGs. We clearly live in different worlds.

I driven everything from Lambos on down. I simply understand that cars that sell less than a thousand cars a year worldwide don't a market make. 90% of the market is cheap crossovers, pick-ups and japanese or korean midsize sedans, none of which goes much faster 90 miles per hour at the 1/4, you know, the REAL world. That's without counting the 25 percent of cars on the road that are jalopies.

No disagreement there, but how is that relevant to passing power? If I'm driving on a two lane highway and only have a 0.5 mile passing zone and 5 cars ahead of me with a slowpoke up front, I need passing power to get past them all. I know I won't be able to do this with 90% of the cars on the road, nor will I be able to do this with an EQS 450. Just not enough power. I might be in an EQS 580, though. Maybe we misunderstood each other, but those are the situations when passing power matters, not on a 4 lane interstate with passing lanes for miles.

I don’t understand where the 90% of other cars come into play here.
The OP has a Plaid and is asking a question. For an EV, the 450 is not quick. A regular Model Y LR will be quicker and so will many ICE’s.
Nobody said it has to be as it serves the luxury segment but the OP may consider the 580 for AWD and a bit more juice…

To the OP. If you want to pass 5 cars on a two lane road in 1/2 mile, don't get the 450. I also hope you are not driving anywhere near me. However, as I said before, the 450 is not slow or underpowered. It is a capable daily driver for the majority of driving situations which a reasonable driver might encounter. Hope that answers your original question.

I’m looking to purchase an EQS in the next week, and am quite excited by the car, they’re really great.

Thanks a lot!
in sport mode I find the power more than accurate to pass on the freeway. You can see my other cars in my sig so you will see I’m used to faster, and yet still immensely enjoy the EQS experience.

.
Passing on the freeway or any multi-lane road is easy. It is the curvy 2 lane roads that pose the real challenge.

Just as easy as pretty much any other S class. The car is not torpid at all. Its big and heavy but far from clumsy. The handling is as good as many much smaller and lighter "sport sedans". Again, any handling challenge you could undertake in a regular S class can be done better in an EQS. An EQS 450 will lap a road course faster than an S500 despite having slower acceleration just because it handles significantly better. BTW this is not hypothetical it has been demonstrated by the British Auto Press. The key in why the EQS handles better than the S class is fairly simple, perfect weight distribution with the center of gravity 10 inches lower.

EQS
UPDATE

I just drove down to LA and picked up an Onyx Black 450+ and drove it back to the Bay Area.

I have zero regrets, the car has ample speed for pretty much anything you’d do if you were sane and mostly normal .
the things I was worried about, namely being able to pass other cars easily in most situations, were no problem at all, even up big hills , etc.

fantastic car, really enjoying it.

Any feedback from 450 owners about their satisfaction or dissatisfaction would be most appreciated.
I came from a 2021 Model S LR to the EQS 450+. As far as power goes, in my day to day driving, I find that it doesn't quite jolt to a start the same way the Tesla did, but that's okay for me. I prefer a more comfortable drive. It's still fast enough to take a fast left-hand turn when I need to, which is what is most important to me when it comes to performance.

If you end up around San Jose and want to give it a test drive, let me know.

By the way, the big reason not to get a 580 is the stupid crazy markup. Those things are so rare, you will be hard-pressed to find one with a markup below 50k. But no matter what, you won't be paying MSRP, unlike a Tesla.

Right before I got my MSRP 450+, a dealership offered me a 580 for 10k over MSRP. I declined, as It wasn’t as well equipped as the 450 in a few key ways.

I had a few others get to 20k mark up. But these are rare!

there’s also a 450 with Hyperscreen in Pleasanton , but I didn’t like the interior color scheme as much.

Some of you live in the wrong places. Move to Des Moines and there will be no mark up.
