Note to the wise, enable collision images ASAP

I learned this lesson the hard way back in February, just 2 weeks after taking delivery of my new EQS. The car comes equipped with a feature that will take photos when it detects a collision, but the car will upload them ONLY if you enable the feature by scanning a QR code before any accident! Ugh! Luckily my insurance company was fine accepting photos of my Infotainment screen.

Enable this option in your Mercedes Me app!

I've been putting off scanning the QR code thinking it was already enabled. Just got in my car and enabled it, so thank you for that!

Completed process with automatic upload enabled

Open your Mercedes Me app. Click on the car icon in the center of the bottom of the screen, then click on the "collision detection" icon. In the screen that pops up, click on the lower right corner and the opportunity to scan or re-scan will appear. Do this while sitting in your car.

I believe the procedure you mentioned is to setup end to end encryption of the images from the car to your phone. One day in the not too distance past, I got into my car, and it indicated that there was a collision alert. I when through all the photos and saw no suspect. The car was parked inside my gate. After an exterior inspection, I did not see anything. I was given the option to download it to my USB connected drive or do the connection to my phone.

On another instance, a driver bumped the rear my car while standing in drive mode. MB did not alert me of a collision. I suspect that the collision alert only works when the car is in Park mode. Is this true for anyone else?

According to the manual, collision photos are not taken if alarm has not been activated. Obviously not active while driving. Photos would be useful but perhaps too many false alarms if the feature was active while driving.
