WI is a front license plate state though the word on the street is you never get stopped for it (true). HOWEVER I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and though legally parked a not so nice "public servant" gave me a 66 dollar ticket for not having one despite beingfrom out of state! This is an attempt at compliance without having to use the ill fitting bracket and horrible square plate. It has the state and the appropriate number (erased). Dont waste your breath, Im aware its still non compliant, but hopefully will garnish even less attention

IA is also a front license plate. I got stopped once about 11 years ago on I-80 (IA). I showed the state trooper the front license plate I had stored in the trunk. He didn’t write a ticket but told me to install the plate when I get back home. I never did and had no intention of doing so. I never got got stopped for this in Des Moines. There’s no way I’m putting on a front plate on the EQS. The cops around here never bother anymore.

I almost cried when I screwed the self tapping screws into the bumper😢

Not sure why you would do that. The type of plate you installed can be installed with double sided automotive tape (3M VHB tape). Maybe you need a thicker accessory tape given the curvature of the bumper but given the length of the plate you would have had enough contact area
I certainly would not have screwed into the bumper to install a plate that is still not a real plate. That won't stop anybody from giving you a ticket.
MD is a front plate state, but I have run no front plate since 2017 when the salesman who sold me my LS460L convinced me not to drill the bumper. I got one ticket, out of state like yours for like $50. Even if I got one $50 ticket a year I still would run no front plate. I was even stopped in that LS for tint and the cop didnt say anything about a front plate.
I wanted to avoid any unnecessary holes in the bumper and I've had good luck with a Slybrackets Mount so far.
You are aware that placing the plate there kills 30% of the airflow to the radiator? For those that were not aware, the EQS has a radiator.... In these vehicles battery cooling is critical, you would be surprised how restrictive plates can be. On the Ford ecoboost F150 they had to move the license plate to the side bumper since any restriction of the airflow would lead to the engine stalling in very hot humid weather.

Yep drilling is a crime but using an MB bracket requires drilling too. If you need to remove them you can always add colored plugs to cover them up......still a crime. There is no way to get nuts behind the bumper, its a solid piece of foam so I had to use self tapping screws.
I found out the hard way when I switched from RI address with my previous S550 to Florida. RI is a front plate state and Florida is rear only. I went to take off the front plate and found it was screwed into the bumper. I ended up buying a Patriots plate to cover up the holes in the front bumper. Now when I purchase a car from the RI dealer I make certain they do not install the front bumper bracket.

that's good to know, I'll have to keep an eye on it. So far it's done multiple road trips in 115-degree heat with zero issues.

Notice whether the battery fans run continuously. I doubt it would overheat so much that it would cause a malfunction. Mercedes was very judicious with their cooling system.
I hate sounding elitist but I wouldn’t destroy my car because of a single $66 ticket.
‘now if you were frequently getting pulled over for it but you said you never do so are you really that scared of another $66 ticket at some random time in the future that may never actually happen?
$66… you paid $3k for that paint…

I would have just paid the ticket and left the tag off, thats what I did. Or if I was going to drill the bumper I would at least have done so for the actual tag which would actually solve the problem. I actually think your euro plate looks cool, but it won't solve this problem.
Where were the holes for that? Would they be covered by the proper American plate holder? What happens if you get a ticket for that plate, if you have to install the proper American tag holder will the holes from that European one be exposed?
I've never understood the reasons why one would not comply with the law. All my cars have been drilled and plated, and they all looked and look fantastic, in my opinion. It's just a license plate on a car, after all. YMMV.
Texas is a 2 plate state. I got pulled over a couple of years ago for not having a front plate on my '14 GL450. I think officers use it as an excuse to see if anything else could be a problem for you. I had the plate and the bracket in the car, so I headed straight to the dealer to have it installed. Later on I got vanity plates so I was happy the bracket was there. Yes, they had to put screws directly into the bumper. I recently traded the '14 for a '17 GLS550 which did not have a front bracket. The dealer got one so I headed there to get it installed. There is a mounting plate behind the grill into which the screws for the bracket go. If the next owner doesn't want a front plate, he can remove it and no one will ever know it was there.

The car is just better looking without it. Ive run no front plate in MD for 5 years now and the only issue I have ever had is I got a $50 ticket parked on the street in DC one time. Paid it and went on with my life. I think it depends on the car whether they look TERRIBLE with a front plate or not. The worst are the Genesis cars where they literally put the front plate in the middle of the grille:

My friend across the street has a GV70. Nice car. Slick tech. Same problem.

If I had to mount a plate on that car, it wouldgo on the lower grill below the bumper. Fortunately Florida has just 1 plate that goes on the back for cares and light trucks and on the front for heavy trucks.

Issue is right in the center of that lower grille is the radar sensor for the radar cruise control, so mounting it there would be impossible
We will have to agree to disagree. I can't see how the license plate has anything to do with how beautiful a car looks, whether it be a Porsche or an EQS. Otherwise, you wouldn't put one on the rear either! The worst is the crookedly mounted substitute mounting systems folks use to keep from centering and drilling as the manufacturer has designed. I mean...come on , man... you know you're only keeping the car 2-3 years anyway. And all my systems work flawlessly with the plate mounted as the manufacturer designed.....imagine that. But, to each his own. You gotta do what you gotta do.
