Home charger

As I’m getting closer to taking delivery of my 580, I have few questions for the group

1. Which home charger to go with plug in or direct wired?
2. Charge point, Electrify America, or juice box?
3. What other essentials are must?

I have read other threads and there is so much information sometimes contradicting information that it’s overwhelming and confusing.

I appreciate your help.

After reading multiple threads on the subject, I bought a ChargePoint flex for each of my 2 homes. Bought the 14-50 model and will probably go with plug. I was able to get a instant $500 rebate on each charger, so the decision was easy for me.

You can direct wire but you don't need it. Plugged in will charge the car at its maximum amperage which is 40 amps. If the EQS had an 11kw charger, then direct wire would be required.

I got the Juice Box plug in. At the time it was about $100 cheaper than charge point with what I thought was about the same functionality. My thoughts on the plug in, was that it would be easier to replace if needed.
One thought, you might check with your local electric utility. Earlier this year, I saw an article that Georgia Power was offering chargers for $200 off. I don't remember which one.

Might want to check with your electric utility company. Ours would rebate $500 only if the charger was a Juice Box or Chargepoint.

And, cheaper rates may apply depending on your set up with your utility. They didn't for me, because I'm on the monthly budget plan, but you won't know unless you ask

Thank you all.
As far as essentials, what should I keep in my trunk to avoid getting stuck with no battery charge left?

May I inquire who gave the rebate?

Long Island electric PSEG. You have to be a customer. I know the rebate went down after July 31, it’s now $400. They have ChargePoint and juice box chargers.

Something to keep in mind about the Charge Point processor. Some states/counties (mine in Florida for one) require that a home charger connected with a 240V plug use a Ground Fault Interrupt breaker. When this is the case, the EQS / Chargepoint connection will stop charging every hour or so when it trips that breaker. It drove me nuts until I got the electrician back out, hardwired the connection and put in a standard breaker. All is fine now.

I believe the ChargePoint Homeflex has a built in GFCI breaker. Perhaps that is why the circuit was constantly tripping, because it now had two of them. Mine is on a 50 amp breaker to a NEMA 6/50 plug, and charges my car at 9.6kW usually. Sometimes, if demand is high, that slips a little. But I have a delay set to start charging at 8:30PM, when demand lessens. That leaves plenty of time for charging before morning, and the car shuts itself off when it achieves 80%. So far, knock on wood, it has been flawless.

Most utilities offer rebates or discounts to their customers on several chargers. They have to offer more than one because of supply chain issues.

Georgia Power for instance offers discounts on Chargepoint, Juicebox, Wallbox, and Flo Home X5.

It may be affected depending on your plan. I couldn’t get low rates because I’m on a budget plan with KU.
