Garage door opener

I just recently took delivery of a 23 EQS 580 sedan and went to program the homelink opener in the car. I have a rather old craftsman garage door opener but have always been able to program all the previous cars I have owned (GMC, MB, and Ford). I was finally able to get the intrinsic opener to accept the rolling code portion of the set up. It only seems to work intermittently, mainly to open the door. I open garage manually and try to close it with car and nothing happens. I just came home and it opened fine but would not shut. I tried using the craftsman remote inside the car and it also wouldn’t work well. I wondered whether the acoustic glass upgrade I have might have something to do with it and held the remote outside the open window and door now opens and closes fine. I still can’t get the opener in the car to work consistently. Any thoughts? I don’t understand why I can get door to open but not close. Did I program it wrong? Or is it just an old opener that needs replacement.

.
There are two areas in the windhield designed to allow signals through. They are visible best when viewed at an angle. One is near the rearview mirror and the other in the center next to the dash. There are threads about them on the forum.

I know about those two areas. I have my EZPass mounted on the windshield to the right of the mirror. I held the remote up behind the EZPass and I think it may have worked once. It has a clip for the visor so I will try it on visor right behind the EZPass transponder.
I just can’t figure out why the integrated opener opens the door but won’t close it.
I will be programming the car again after the new year when I bring the car to Florida for the winter. My Florida house has a much newer opener so hopefully I won’t have any problems with that garage.

The EQS must have a tighter broadcast beam than other options. My front gate is on a remote and when I programmed the EQS it opens the gate just fine leaving but is inconsistent when returning and opening the gate from the outside. The antenna on the gate is in plain view from all directions so I cannot figure out why it does not work from the outside many times.

We have 4 other vehicles that use this gate all the time with no problems at all

I have had no problems with my old garage door openers, one of which finally failed last week. Now, no problems with the new ones. Not sure what is happening with your openers, but I would probably try erasing everything and starting over.

The inconsistent operation is likely due to your older Craftsman opener and signal interference from things like the acoustic glass. It’s not a programming error. Modern HomeLink systems can struggle with older rolling-code openers. Holding the remote outside the window works because it bypasses the interference. You can try resetting and carefully reprogramming the HomeLink, testing from different spots in the car, and checking for other electronic interference. If it still doesn’t work reliably, replacing the old opener with a newer model is the most reliable solution.
