Hello everyone! I took the advantage of the $7500 lease incentive from Mercedes and took the delivery of the last EQS 580 sedan in stock that the dealership had couple weeks ago. I have put over 800 miles so far, and I am loving it! This is the sixth Mercedes that I have, so I am very familiar with Mercedes products, but EQS still gives my a lot surprises! Since this is my first vehicle with a six figures price tag, so I had tested drive several times prior to get the EQS 580. Before I went to test drive the EQS, I had watched a lot YouTube videos that talk about the breaking design for EQS is not good. With that in my mind when I was test driving, I felt the breaking was not bad at all. I had also tested drive the refreshed Model S, Taycan, the regular S580, and the EQS 450 SUV. I like the EQS the most, so it was down to whether to get the sedan or the SUV. I also have a 2020 w167 GLE 350, and the only EQS SUV that the dealer had was a 450 without the hyperscreen. When I was test driving this EQS SUV, and I felt like this EQS SUV was not much different than my GLE. So I decided to pickup the EQS 580 sedan with the hyperscreen, and I would highly recommend the hyperscreen is a must have feature for the ones that interested to get an EQS!
I going to share a few things that I don't like so far about my EQS 580. The frustration mostly comes from the public fast charging! EQS comes with free 30 minutes fast charging from the Electrify America charging network for two years. It took me a while to figure out how to set it up, and the dealership was not familiar with this. Once I finally set up my the Electrify America account, pretty much every Electrify America location that I been to has some charging stations are not working, especially the 350kW ones! I live in ME, MA, and NH area, and not that many Electrify America locations are available in the this area. I also a Tesla Model 3 as my daily driver, and I have to acknowledge that the public charging experience for Tesla is way better than other EV by far! Another issue that I am running into is the charging port cover. I get so used to the Tesla design, so just leaving the charging station after putting back to charging cable. All Tesla vehicles will close the cover automatically and EQS won't, so I forgot to close the cover all the time that until I saw it from the mirror or other drivers on the road notify me by their high beam. LOL
I have a question for other EQS owner: is there a way to set the strong recuperation as the default setting? Thanks!

To answer your question about "recuperation", no, there is no way to set it permanently. But you might read on another thread here about using the paddles judiciously to actually increase the range. I find myself constatnly turning on and off regen braking now. Great photos too.

Good looking car! Unfortunately, you can't set your preferred recoup mode as a default. I wish MB would change that.
Right now, especially in the the very cold weather, DC fast charges are very unreliable unlike the Tesla supercharger network. See Out of Spec reviews on Utube. EA, Chargepoint and all have a lot of work to do to meet Tesla standards.

I do not understand the problem shutting the charge port door on a EV as I have been closing the door over the gas filling port on ICE Vehicles for over 55 years….😊

It is easy to pop open a cover or door and difficult to close it. On all of my cars I can open the trunk with the push of a button. Only on my MB can I touch a button to close the trunk.

I open and close the charging port cover manually with one hand and have the electrical plug in my other hand. It all takes less than a second….

If Musk doesnt bankrupt Tesla you should be able to use superchargers starting this year. If he does drive the company into the hole Im sure some car company will buy it at the fireside sale that will ensue. He has been trying to sell it to other car companies for a while now.

One of my reasons to MB was the Tesla chargers would be opened up. But after seeing Musk's latest move, i think he pulled a fast one on the govt and now I'm not so confident we will Tesla super chargers open this year. Why do I say this?
Instead of him opening up Tesla chargers to CCS connectors, he instead opened up the Tesla connector to all other manufacturers. In other words he has said to EV makers - "if you want to use Tesla superchargers then add my connector to your car". But he knows this is not going to happen as all other EV manufacturers have adopted J1772/CCS. So now he gets to stay effectively propreitary with his network but still gets to say he has opened up his network as he has pledged to the govt. But now that he has opened up his connector, it would be an opposite move for him to add CCS to his stations. Below is a great article on this:

I think this maybe the reason why now MB has announced their own network. They realize that if they are "all-in" on EVs then now they can't count on the Tesla network being opened up and EA is owned by a competitor and is crap. So what choice do they have other than to build out their network.

I did not link this post proberly; it refers to the problem with the charging flap door.
If I am reading your post correctly, this is a known issue. The plastic latch on the socket flap door has to be adjusted slightly. We have 2 EQS's in the family and both gave the erroneous "socket flap open" when it was actually shut as some point in their short lives. After a while, it became difficult to open the door when I charged. My dealer fixed it; no parts required and this is no longer a problem on either car. I am surprised MB has not revised the part by now as it has been a problem since day 1.
