Charging etiquette
I’m seeing so many times people plug their car in and take off. People are waiting for chargers and their cars are 100% plus 10 minutes grace period is pass. They are getting charged but it’s not about money but more about being courteous. Today it was an EQS owner who did that.

I asked the same question a few days ago about Mercedes owners getting to make reservations at charging stations sponsored by Mercedes and the answer was that your position in line would show up on everyone’s app. This may be the way all future fast chargers are set up but who knows.

Since I bought my 450 with no intention of driving so far as to need recharging before I would be back in my garage, you can bet this is no worry of mine.
Good luck, you all.
Good luck, you all.

The problem now as I see it is that for the most part it takes a lot longer to charge your car than to fill it with gas. Most people get antsy sitting in their car for 30 minutes or more. So they visit the local stores and take their time since they know it will be at least 30 minutes before the car is charged up. This is not a problem if there are 10 chargers available but where I live 4 or less chargers are the norm. Hopefully one day the average charge time will be around 15 minutes or so and this will relieve 90% of the problem.

People have no etiquette in any other area of their lives, why would they have etiquette here?

The condo where I charge my car differentiates between the energy and the parking space. It allows unlimited hours of charging at a reasonable rate/kwh, and "free parking" for the first four hours. To avoid the high parking fee, most owners disconnect before their four "free" parking hours are up. Chargepoint actually sends me a text message warning 15 minutes before the parking fee kicks in.
The Volta fast chargers at the mall next to my condo do something similar. They charge an hourly fee without a time limit, but once the charger recognizes that the charing has stopped, it sends a text message warning that a penalty fee will begin if not unplugged in 30 minutes.
There are ways to penalize inconsiderate drivers while connected to a charger, but I have to see a solution for an EV owner who parks in an EV stall just because they drive an EV, and do not plug in to charge. 😤

Etiquette you say?? That's almost laughable in today's society.

The work around will be tough once charging stations are so full people loose their temper and start trouble. I would wonder the attitude of Tesla owners towards other EV’s once Tesla sites are open to everyone. I have met more than one Tesla owner who has drank the koolaid and thinks they are a superior race. 😊
