2024 EQS will offer Drive Pilot

The 2024 Model Year S and EQS will debut the option for drivepilot, which will work initially on certain highways in Nevada. The 2024 S and EQS will hopefully begin US sales in third quarter of this year

Would be interesting to know if Mercedes plans to offer Drive Pilot to all buyers or only to states where it has been approved. I would suspect people wouldn’t buy it if they couldn’t use it, but some will purchase it no matter what.

It would make more sense to offer it to everyone (at least in the US) but geolock the feature - so that it works only in states (or areas) where it has been approved. (Drivers from other states - especially California - frequently end up driving in Nevada.)

It already is accurately geolocked. It works in Germany on certain roads only, should be the same when it comes to the US. I thought MBUSA would only advertise the feature for states where it works. Would one purchase the feature in the north just for Nevada trips? Not sure if the legislation in one state needs to allow the feature for sales, even if it only worked on another state where it is allowed? Not a mercedes restriction anyway.

The feature needs very expensive hardware, not only expensive SW (discussed many times, see e.g. post by superswiss). Would not make sense to have it pre-installed on all cars.

Tom Voelk in his Driven car review said that the 2022 has the hardware on it for Level 3 autonomous, but it is not turned on. Can anyone verify if this is true? I think he was mistaken, but it makes me wonder if our 2022 might have this feature someday.

if you are talking about the video review on YouTube then you are mistaken. If there is another review where he actually says so then yes he is incorrect.
