Airbag open? Aftermath?

I've run a couple of searches on this but with few results...

Has anyone been driving when his steering wheel airbag went off?

If so, how, if at all did it cause any cuts, scrapes, bleeding, etc?

I set mine off the other evening with resulting hand and wrist scrapes, face scrape, throat bruising. I'm fine, and all will heal easily, but I'm curious as to how this might compare with others' experiences.

Bruh, what do you mean by "I set mine off the other evening?" Were you in an accident? Did you drive into a brick wall? Explain!

Generally you have to collide with a solid object at 4 miles per hour or over for the steering wheel airbag to deploy. A few years ago there was a Takata recall because their units exploded with pieces of metal and plastic shrapnel maiming and killing a few people and sending many to the hospital. Hopefully that was fixed and I do not know if MB uses Takata though many car manufacturers buy from them. Wishing you a speedy recovery….

My thoughts exactly. Regardless, minor abrasions, cuts and so on are part and parcel of any airbag deployment.

In some sense it was ie a small explosive charge.

Were you in a collision?

I hit a deer at 55mph and the driver’s bag blew as well as the pyro belt tensioner. No injuries to me, not even superficial. The deer didn’t fare very well. It died.

Airbag deployment disables the fuel pump on combustion vehicles, rendering the vehicle immobile. Is there an analogy for this on an EV? Is the high voltage interrupted?

Yes. I dont know if it's tied to airbag deployment or other sensors. The main battery is supposed to disconnect in a significant crash. The main breaker is situated in the passenger's footwell area.

I ran over a concrete drainage shoulder at about 35 in a brand new Lexus IS years ago. No damage to the front of the car, but it set every front airbag off after the car was stopped. It was almost 10 grand to replace all the bags.

A bit off topic but do you really mean the airbags deployed after the car was stopped? I thought the acceleration sensors should see a strong deceleration before applying front bags. Not sure how a vertical acceleration figure should be treated, probably more like blowing window bags. Air bags can cause "damage" and should not be applied for insignificant accidents where seat belts are more than enough. Probably difficult to control every border line case, then better to use bags than avoid. I don't think "better late than never" applies here.

That’s what happened. No front collision. It was a 2006 IS250AWD. Less than a year old. They said the impact from the suspension was enough to set them off. Ultimately, the car had a bent control arm, wheel etc. along with the airbags, they declared the car a total loss. I paid 42k for the car new.
