Lack of parts, manufacture guidance, technical knowledge could total EVs or their batteries.

I’m not great at linking but there is currently a near fifty thousand dollar repair being done on one of these on Reddit. It was very clear the body shop took advantage of the customer. The damage was similar. The strut tower needed to be replaced…I’d hate to think these cars are just not repairable after what appears to be a minor accident. Time will tell but it looks like the disposable society has really caught up to MB. I hope the EV regulations don’t continue to compromise safety.

Feel better Op.

As insurers and body shops become more experienced with EVs, this will calm down. EV owners are still early adopters, really...

It's not just MB, lots of EV cars in general are disposable/totaled after accidents.

The batteries can at least be recycled some day or disassembled and sent the desert for a battery storage power plant.

Same could be said about ICE cars.

Scratched EV battery? Insurer may junk the car

https://www.yahoo.com/news/scratched...115539308.html

Scratched the battery on your new electric vehicle, even slightly? Then your car may be a write-off. That's because in many EVs there is no way to fix or assess even lightly damaged battery packs. The problem has forced insurance companies to write off cars with few miles on the clock, leading to higher premiums. It also undercuts the green case for EVs, if they have to be junked after any incident.

Battery packs can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and make up half of an EV's price tag. Both Ford and General Motors say they have made battery packs easier to repair. But market leader Tesla has taken the opposite approach with its Model Y. Experts warned its new structural battery pack has - quote - 'zero repairability'. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.

A Reuters search of EV salvage sales in the U.S. and Europe showed a large portion of low-mileage Teslas. Major brands like Nissan and Hyundai were also present. EVs make up small fraction of vehicles on the road and that makes industry-wide data hard to come by. But the trend of low-mileage zero-emission cars being written off with minor damage is growing. Insurers and experts say that Tesla and other carmakers need to make changes. They want to see more repairable battery packs and third-party access to battery cell data. Otherwise, they warn, insurance premiums will just keep on going up as EV sales continue to grow.

Updated: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/scrat...050459910.html

There are a growing number of repair shops specializing in repairing EVs and replacing batteries. In Phoenix, Arizona, Gruber Motor Co has mostly focused on replacing batteries in older Tesla models. But insurers cannot access Tesla's battery data, so they have taken a cautious approach, owner Peter Gruber said. "An insurance company is not going to take that risk because they're facing a lawsuit later on if something happens with that vehicle and they did not total it," he said.

On the list of repair parts listed by the insurance company, the high voltage battery represented about 40%.
According to the adjuster, state law requires "totaling" when the repair cost hits a certain percentage of the vehicle's current value.
Given today's market, without a doubt, I'm getting a good payoff for my very unloaded EQS.

Charger still available?

I have decided not to replace my totaled ’22 EQS450+, and so advised the dealer, to free up his allocation space.

My insurance payout is significantly far more than I could have sold the car for, but, of course, that’s not relevant to anything.

There are just too many factors involved for it to be feasible. [Questions not solicited, and will not be answered if asked.]

I am extremely grateful for the beneficial information I have picked up here. Thanks to all you helpful folks.

So long as I can drive, I still have my 2018 S560 and two Lexus RX 350s to drive as needed. They will do me quite well.
Anyone interested in a year-old ChargePoint charger as suggested by MB last year at 25% off new unit price, FOB northern Kentucky??
Is your charger still available?

You are too new and don't have enough posts to have a Mod open up PMs for your account. Takes a while.
