Seat Quality or Defect?

I have the crossed stitch seating. In the rear, the cushion below the leather seems full and firm so that when you press it down with your finger, the cushion under the leather fills it back up. However, the front seats seems to be different. As a preface, I don't have bony butts, but when I get out of the driver seat, I can still see a slight "wrinkle" on the seat. When I press down on the leather surface were the slight wrinkle is, it feels as if the cushion below the leather is not fluffing back up to fill up the leather. Even hours when I come back, I can feel the "gap" between the leather and the cushion below. The passenger's seat is not as bad as the driver's seat. The rear seating is perfect. Is this a defect in the cushion or just bad quality cushion under the front seats leather?

Unless you bought the pinnacle trim, the seats in the rear are indeed more "spartan" than the front ones. In fact the pinnacle should have been labeled NRA (nicer rear area). There is no discussion to the fact that the S class rear is a plusher environment in the "lower" trims. But, you can always option it up!

I have the pinnacle trim that includes the $5K rear exec pkg with the MBUX tablet, recline seats, etc. The rear cushion bounces back after you sit in them, But the fronts do not bounce back as much. Hence, you can lightly put your finger on the leather seat and feel a vertical gap between the underside of the leather and the cushion below. It is similar to sitting on an old leather semi firm couch. It's comfortable because it is broken in, but the leather is slightly waved in appearance. As if the cushion below has been compressed over time and it is not puffing back up. This car has less than 700 miles.

Do you have ventillated seats in the back? With ventilated seats the seat foam is less dense to allow the airflow through it.

I ordered Sonax product this time to replace Turtle. I heard that Turtle is great and is good to use for exclusive leather for MB but Sonax is from Germany and they specifically make their solution for German cars like MB BMW. I will post with Sonax update. I might use the leftover Turtle on my other car.

I have ventilated seats front and back. Do keep us posted on the chemicals. I'm not sure how it works on leathers whether it makes the leather more flexible to bounce back to the original shape.

I used Sonax and it works BETTER than Turtle.

1. Clean the seat with Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner (not the conditioner). Wait til it dries. (5 min)
2. Spray
Amazon Amazon
this and use microfiber to apply.

The seat became soft and it the pressure spots return back in few hrs after getting out.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the recommendations. Any other leather experts want to chime in? I have used Lexol cleaner and conditioner before but felt it was not much better than a mild soap and water. However, I have not used it for the purpose of restoring leather stretches.

Also, SW20S may be on to something about the softer foam. I feel the front seats have foam that do not "puff out" as much as the rear seat despite the ventilation feature on both.

Never tried Lexol. All I can say is Turtle is $10 and does the job decent. (All In One)
Chemical Guy Leather Cleaner + Sonax Conditioner is more expensive but better. Those are two I tried. (Two separate but does its job better)

Porsche forums swear by Leather Honey, so I bought some and used it on a leather couch at home. It seems pretty awesome so far. I just picked up a "new to me" EQS SUV 580 with only 400 miles on the ODO (dealer CPO'd), so I'll be trying it out very soon.

Lexol's days are long gone. Back in the early 2000's, Lexol was the absolute shiz. I never used anything but Lexol on my automotive leathers. However, they got bought out a few years ago, and the product has changed. I bought some last year, just to check it back out, and found it to be fairly crappy.

I wouldn’t use Leather Honey on coated automotive seats

If the leather is coated (the coloring), then no leather conditioner is really going to penetrate.

Correct, really any leather conditioner isn't necessary. You need something that is designed to benefit the urethane coating.

Most car seats are pigmented leather. However, water and oil can still get through the pigments over time. I think the "leather cleaners" are mild detergent solution" that will not harm the pigment or leather under it. However, the conditioner, if it cannot get past the pigments, is simply useless. When the seats are new, and the pigments are intact, it is very difficult to get any chemicals to go through and "condition" the leather under it. However, as the seats are worn and the pigment has micro-cracks, the dirt and oil can get through, and so can leather cleaners and conditions.

Perforated seats have holes that allow more penetration.
