Maps update with digital extras

EQS is supposed to automatically update the maps. I have a 23 EQS 580 sedan, which will be 2 years old this December. It has not once updated any of the maps automatically. You can manually update the maps yourself, which I ended up doing. I’m on version 20/2024 in the US. It’s a bit time consuming. You download the map from your computer to a USB stick and plug it into a usb port in the car. I think the car has to be turned on to download because when I left the stick in the car overnight, the next morning it was on the same % download as when I turned it off the night before. Sometimes it took a few attempts before the maps finally loaded. It took a while but eventually I was able to install all the newest maps I wanted. Maps are divided by region. If you live on the east coast you don’t have to download the west coast maps.

it is such a bummer that the maps are not updated automatically. The digital extras package is to have he latest navigation available but alas..
will check with mb support to see of they can provide any guidance on the package and maps updates

I don't know what the algorithm for timing is, but my maps are updated automatically. They're not all updated at once. On a recent long trip (Sweden to Greece), I noticed that map updates seemed to happen after I crossed the border into a country that I'd never driven in before.

I'm not sure if mine is updating automatically or not but the feature is installed and working according to the packages I've purchased. Need to check...
One of the things that really bugs me is the warnings the system gives me such as "pot hole ahead" or "speed bump ahead". They are 95% of the time plain wrong. I don't know how they get updated (another map providers data eg Google? Crowd-sourced?) but good luck keeping up with Europe and it's (seemingly endless) obsession with speed bumps... Anyone know how to turn off these warnings?

During a long-distance road trip (from California to Texas (to see the solar eclipse) and back) earlier this year, my maps got updated automatically several times as I moved from state to state. (I have a 2023 EQS 580 SUV.)
