MBUX / Assistant / Features - a lot missing.
Today, I tried out the interior assistant, which is supposed to allow you to open the sunroof as well. It doesn’t work for me. All the other functions work fine.
This point bothers me fundamentally: no digital key. For an electric "S-Class," that's truly a disappointing shortcoming.
Then comes the list of things I’ve seen but aren’t possible in my car:
- No traffic light assistant. It exists, but it doesn’t work in my car. See the screen of the first seconds in this video
- No custom digital light themes
This doesn’t mean that all features have to be great or that you need them. For me, it’s just disappointing that I have the almost top-of-the-line Mercedes EQS, and many things simply don’t work. Especially the lack of third-party apps is sad. Here I am with a 140k EQS, and I can’t even play Angry Birds.

MB uses tons of internal terms and marketing language for features without defining the terminology or stating the feature/option/build codes in places where they could be useful to prevent confusion.
It's next to impossible to clearly understand what the constantly-changing "packages" include. The whole specification and ordering process -- at least in Sweden -- seems like it is almost designed to cause confusion and mistakes.
Add to this that the EQ cars are still so new that not enough sales staff have the competence to accurately explain things.
Oh - and then the EQ's launching during the Covid period were often delivered without all the options specified...and all too often, the buyer was not made aware of this before taking delivery.
And then there are local transportation department / government restrictions.
I wanted a lot of "stuff" and, in the end, ordered everything, including the kitchen sink to cover for any possible misunderstandings.
And with that, I STILL DID NOT GET EVERYTHING I would have liked. Not because the factory didn't add it or build it, but because the online configuration tool did not really display all the options. One needs to go to the price sheet to see the rest -- that is if the sales person happens to tell you to do that.
And the configuration tool can be buggy. It can let you specify, order and pay for something without telling that you need to order xyz too in order for you to actually use it.
It just frosts me. I went into this initially thinking that the process of specifying and buying a luxury car should be a pleasurable experience. Silly me.
In the end, I got a very nice car and I love it. But here, a year later, I'm still learning about all the quirks for ordering or getting the features I paid for to work as advertised. And learning about features I saw in marketing promotions that I thought applied to my car...and they didn't
End of rant.
