How quite is your EQS inside?

I always hear how quiet the EQS is supposed to be inside. However, I don’t perceive it that way. Even withe the "Laminated glass with thermal and noise Insulation" I think the tire rolling noise seem quite high to me. Maybe it’s due to the roads in Florida and the Bridgestone Turanza tires. What have your experiences been like? I would love to test drive a Rolls-Royce sometime to have a comparison. But is there really a vehicle where you can't hear anything inside?

No Mercedes yet
I like to think of it this way: The EQS is so quiet, the tires are the only thing that you hear :-)

A vehicle doesn’t have to be dead silent to be considered quiet.
No one has claimed that “you can’t hear anything” and no one has claimed that it’s as quiet as a $400k luxury vehicles.

The simple fact is that most people have never been in a vehicle as quiet as the EQS.
Try lowering your expectations to reality. The list of vehicles as quiet or quieter than the EQS is very short.
I don’t need to test drive a Rolls-Royce just so that I can whine that the EQS is not as quiet as a $400k vehicle. 🤦

Ya makes sense but how quiet is too quiet, even being too quiet is not a good thing: https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/01/succe...dan/index.html

I think most people here agree the EQS is very quiet. Think about how you can have a whisper quiet conversation. Tires and road conditions can make a large difference, so everyone's experience may vary. If you want to put it to the test, download a decibel meter and test it, and then compare to another vehicle under the same conditions.

The noise cancellation feature of some MBs all help I don't remember if EQS has that.

The thing with EVs is that they are quiet to the point that you hear everything else that usually gets masked by the engine. If my memory serves me, you guys in Florida have concrete roads due to the tropical climate. Concrete roads are super noisy. It's like in Texas when I used to travel for business there. The tires were howling like crazy on the concrete highways there. Our roads here are paved with rubberized asphalt. That's asphalt mixed with shredded old tires. It drastically reduces road noise. We have a few sections that are concrete such as elevated sections and overpasses and the difference in road noise is staggering, especially with the summer performance tires on my AMG. Some tires are super noisy on concrete roads.

This is what I'm thinking too. Florida roads are just too noisy.

MB’s of all kinds.
Here in Florida we have concrete roads vs paved roads. Paved is always quieter. Tires will make a world of change to the noise. Pretty much any Mercedes product is quiet. The EQS is definitely more quiet than other sites for sure. Chances are if you’re not satisfied with the noise level in your EQS it’s not because of the car it’s because of the types of tires you have on there and a mix of the type of road you’re going over.

I use the quiet to listen to the awesome Burmester 3D.....and then that's pretty much all I can hear. Unlike other cars where mechanical noises interfere with the crisp highs and the thumping bass. That's my definition of quiet.

Yes. It's nice to not have to turn the volume to a 10 to fight interfering noise.

Good point. Next time you take that Uber Toyota you will realize just how quiet the EQS is.

Just picked up our 2024 EQS 450+SUV this last weekend. It’s quiet…but maybe not as quiet as I had expected. My wife has a 2023 Genesis GV70EV….IMO, the GV70EV is just as quiet as the EQS.

Does the GV70EV have noise cancellation? I know the ICE GV80 does.

I tried a couple of dB meters / Android play store. I'm using now https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...meter&hl=en_US
I found out that there are indeed differences from app to app. If anyone feels like it, they can measure it at 30 mph, 55 mph, and 75 mph.

I was just looking at Car Confections Sound Level Readings master list, and a 2022 EQS 580 did well in their test with 53.1db. A 2023 S500 registered 50.7db also very good. They use a handheld meter and if possible, drive on the same stretch of road near their home base with the HVAC on lowest setting.

That's nice to see.

Full list here. EVs here.

I wish they would list the tires from the test vehicle and whether it has acoustic glass and/or noise cancellation. Just looking at various figures and it seems to match up with my experience of past vehicles I have driven.

That is strange, I am surprised to see several low volume readings from non luxury manufactures such as Mazda 3 Hatch at 54.7 and Mazda CX-90 PHEV 52.2 even lower than the EQS 580 53.1, were they all tested on the same roads, under the same conditions?

Totally agree. On delivery, I thought there was something wrong with it, they claim there isn't.

So much ambient noise comes in through the laminated windows, even before you start the car. Once driving, wind noise is fine, road noise is OK (no current car on the market passes the road noise test because makers have all insisted upon stupidly low profile tires that just ruin everything -- a 1990 Lexus LS400 came with 15" wheels and 205/65 tires, and that was a quiet car).

The sounds that annoy me most are just ambient noises from passing cars while sitting at a traffic light, etc. It just sounds like the window is cracked open a bit. My Audi e-tron Prestige was dead silent and built like an absolute tank. I miss it. (But I don't miss its crap range and quirky, buggy software.)

So, yeah, the EQS doesn't match the top EV competition, and doesn't match the quality of an S class. I do enjoy the car, but this distracts from the experience for sure.
