I am hoping to get some help. One of our cars ran over the charging
wire in our garage and pulled on the charger while plugged in. See the pictures. That bracket surrounding the plug has cracked. Anyone know what it’s called, the part number or what it would cost to fix it. Thank you.
Ouch! I do recall some discussion on the charging door flap only for an EQA and the replacement cost was eye-watering.
So, I'm not optimistic that the entire unit will be any less than eye-watering.
There are many EQS owners on here, so hopefully somebody will jump in with some useful information.
It is a pretty significant repair. They have to disable the high voltage system, pull the charging assembly plug and cabling out, then replace it. You might also have damage to the mount points/body of the car as well. Once they replace the components then need to perform HV tests to make sure there are not any problems, then reenable the HV system. Several thousand at least - the parts are not cheap and there is a lot behind that plate.
You might want to think about your parking arrangements when charging so there is no chance the cable will get run over/pulled out.
There is a manual disconnect of the HV battery, I think, at the front passenger side. I think that's the easy part. As for the rest of the components around the mount and charger jack, and testing afterwards, I feel it will get cheaper by the day when done out of warranty. I'm sorry for the unfortunate thing that happened.
You might check and see if your insurance will cover it as it was damaged by another car. Then again, it might cheaper just to pay for the repair compared to the premium increases you will face in the future for a claim.
hope the charger itself isn't damaged. usually that's just called a charge port bezel or housing frame. depending on the car model, you can sometimes find the part on ebay or a wholesale oem site for like $40-80, but labor might be the real cost if you don't do it yourself. check if the pins inside the port are still straight before ordering anything.
