any ideas?.. 1998 c280 oil warning light
Just finished a 600 mile journey.. UK to French alps, about 50 miles from the end of the journey the oil warning light came on.. I slowed down and it immediately went off again? carried on and never saw it again.
I had been travelling @70 miles per hour all the way, backed-off to @50 miles per hour, light went out and then back up to 70 about 10 mins later
any clues?.. I have to drive back in a couple of days

Well, just thought I would give an update to this post so that someone else doesn't make the same mistake...
The journey back started well, no oil light, but soon after about 30 minutes it stated coming on and off intermittently. The real answer to this is that all the car wanted was oil.. !!
Kinda obvious eh?, but remember the car doesn't come with an oil dipstick so I had no way of checking (I believe later versions have a 'Dyno check' facility?). Was resolved by trying a small container of oil as a hope it would tackle the problem. The car is now scheduled for a service to renew the oil.
Moral of the story here is.. buy an oil dipstick for the car!!
