Thumbs up BLOCK PARTY at THOP!

WELL, new plan!

Instead of moving over to the park, we may just make this a block party. It turns out the little parking lot at Josh's shop is surrounded by all the units and makes a cool little enclosed area. We should all just about fit in there and then we can all hang out while everybody gets their runs done.

We figured it out and besides us, there will be some others from some other boards there, so about 20 people getting dynoed. At 15 min each, that comes to ... 5 hours?

So it may work out better and be kinda better ambience to block party it cause we'll be, like, enclosed in our lot surrounded by units with only one little driveway into the place, so you can't even see what's going on from the street - like a private courtyard, but for cars as well as people!

Per Josh, still NO ALCOHOL. He wants to keep things somewhat professional. I think he's afraid we'll cause a nuisance, like when we get together we all start yelling and kung fu fighting I guess he's never been to one of our get togethers where the big excitement is all of us just standing there staring at each others cars, the quiet being broken by only the occasional comment or the beep of a camera.

I'll still bring the BBQs, just bring your coolers and whatever you want to eat and drink.

lol...I still need ideas on what to bring! I suck at these type of deals.

The shop idea sounds nice. That means less driving around and less wasting gas if you know what I mean.

we should all divy up who's bringing what.
I mean if we all show up with a head of lettuce & a tomato, we can have a Spanish-style festival and get really dirty !!!
or for example, I can bring a pack of burger patties & hot dogs, and someone else brings ketchup, mustard & mayo.
And someone else brings a 12-pack of soda.

and don't forget toothpicks !!!

I wasn't going to say anything about the weather and just let what happened, happened.

I was takin into acct the fact that at these gtgs I've noticed it takes alot to get people to move locations. Most are willing to just stand there for HOURS just staring at the cars! Even if its on the side of the road when someone's conks out! Hey, I get it, I am one of you - its kinda relaxing. But anyway, here's the deal -

I will still bring the portable bbqs in case it doesn't rain and people want to bbq.

But people can do whatever they want. If this thing truly takes 5 HOURS, even we diehard car starers may get bored and want a change of scenery, plus there is a 50/50 chance of rain, so Plan B is to go down to Main St to eat. (Good ambience, just down Gothard, less than 5 min.) Two options, both right across from each other -

Sharkeez - THE new place. Popular and fun. Lots of big new TVs in case there is a game on (?).

Hurricane's - There is lots of covered parking in the attached structure behind Hurricane's and they validate (Sharkeez doesn't). Lots of TVs, but not nearly as good as Sharkeez. A big, varied menu.

People can go back and forth to the Dyno thing, but I wanted to name a couple places so people would know where everyone was at or going to or coming back from. The restaurants are 50 ft from each other so people have a choice, but no one should feel ditched or lost this time

I vote for HURRICANE's !!

brings back memories of my OP Pro Beach surfing days (mid-80's) !!
ditching school, surfing off the pier, checking out the purple-hair girl at the Electric Chair....

anyway, either place is fine. Hurricane's is cool !

You did not used to surf!

But you are right about the purple-haired girl at the Electric Chair ... so maybe

Its still there, and parking in their lot, if its raining, its usually free. Otherwise, they charge on nice wknds.

On Main St, from the pier, the perpendicular streets go PCH, Walnut, Olive and Orange, etc. and they are super little short blocks with little barely 20 ft wide streets that accommodate people more than cars.

Electric Chair is at Main & Orange.

Hurricane's and Sharkeez are on Main between Walnut and Olive.

And it goes, from South to North, Beach Blvd, 3rd/Lake St, Main, 5th, etc.

The parking structure entrance for Hurricane's is on Walnut or Olive between Main St and 3rd/Lake.

Got all that
