Thanks and hope to see u guys around!

You can try speaking to Kelvin of MBM Wheelpower (tel 64583198 or 94879998) for performance mods. Tell him that DJ recommended him to you. MBM Wheelpower can instal Kleeman products for your car. I know that Kleeman has a high boost and also a low boost supercharger for my 320 V6 engine but I am not sure if Kleeman has come out with superchargers for the 350 engine in your car. Please go to Kleeman's website to check.

I heard that MBM also does Brabus ECU tuning and pulleys.

There are very few workshops in Singapore that can do performance mods safely on our Mercs. Do be careful and don't go to someone who does not know what he is doing. It could be an expensive mistake.

From your description, your SL sounds like a beautiful car. What colour is it? I hope that I will get a chance to admire it someday.

When you have decided to sell your car in 2 years' time, please let me know. Haha. The SL is one car that I really admire.

Thanks very much. I did some browsing on the Kleeman website and it seems that they have a kit specially for the SL350 - a kompressor kit that can boost the hp from 245 bhp to 360 bhp (0-60 from 7.2s to 5.7s). Wonder what the cost would be for such a performance kit! My main concern is the reliability and warranty.

I have also contacted Kelvin who is out of town and may visit the workshop sometime this Sat morning. Thanks for the contact details!

The colour of the SL is arctic silver. Will definitely keep you in mind when I come round to selling it. Thanks again!

MBM have undertaken the complete conversion of my CLK Cabriolet, including Brabus mods such as body kit, 19inch rims, lowered suspension, peripheral items like pedals, gear shift knob and illuminated door sills.

The interior is re-trimmed in red and grey leather with leather from a German dealer who specialises in Mercedes interior trim.

Performance wise a Brabus engineer flew in to supervise the remap of the ECU and tune the engine with an upgraded pulley kit and a 4 branch exhaust header with quad exhaust pipes.
The "SPRINT BOOSTER" was installed to complete the performance mods.

The Brabus remap software was downloaded from Germany, MBM are not able to undertake that but can arrange for the program and the engineer, it is quite expensive but the resulting increase in performance is very impressive.

As you well remark, the "Sprint Booster" gives a significant increase in acceleration response, that, along with the other performance mods and embellisments has made the car quite unique.

MBM have done an excellent job, not only in the work they have done, but also in maintaining the car to a very high standard.

Captain - Thanks for the info!

It seems that from the Kleemann website that the only tuning kit for the SL350 is the Kompressor upgrade so will most probably opt for that. However am very interested in the other mods that you suggested e.g. ECU remapping, pulley upgrades etc.. just that was contemplating whether a full upgrade that is specifically designed by Kleemann would be more reliable than minor upgrades here and there.

I will be paying Kelvin a visit this Sat am to discuss potential options. Your route of having an expert to reprogramm the ECU seems very attractive but the cost may however be quite high unless there are a few other upgrades at the same time??

C&C has no clue how to service the car (i have had many problems with them for my previous E320 and now with my S350 as well) so it would be good to have an expert maintain the car. I tend to keep the SL at home and only use it for the weekend hence the 25k mileage after 3 years.

I definitely did remember seeing a write up on your car in a magazine not long ago! It looks terrific! We should perhaps catch up sometime to compare notes...

Harry & Captain

Please don't forget to invite me when you get together because I want to admire your cars. If we don't get together earlier, we can always get together at the next Mercedes-Benz meetup at the carpark adjacent to Kallang Mac which is help at the same time as the BMW.SG meetup (last Sunday of each month).

Four_eggs: yes sorry it was you who invited me to this forum! Thanks!

It is great to know that there is such a forum in Singapore, I always had the impression that Mercs were for the older towkays and there were no avenue to tune Mercs in Singapore. How wrong I was! I thought that buying a merc SL would be the start of the downhill trend for me as my previous weekend rides were rather more sporty (eg M3 E36/46). I was already very tempted to swap the SL350 for something else but if I could really get the higher power (e.g. > 350 hp) then it may be worthwhile to keep the car until 5th year.

Let me take some pics of the car and if someone could enlighten me as to how I can go about posting up the pics would be great. Will any of you be at MBM this Sat? I'll be seeing Kelvin to see what tuning options he can recommend for the car. Can anyone may be enlighten me as to the magnitude of cost involve for such tunings as I have never tuned Mercs before?

Cheers - Rob (Harry1)

Rob you are welcome.
Regarding the cost of upgrading the performance of a Mercedes, we bear in mind that this is a quality vehicle, and should be upgraded with only quality products, there have been reports of cars being fitted with pulley upgrades with pulleys made in Taiwan, and they have disintegrated while driving with the resultant damage to the engine.
I have always made my choice by following the principle that"The quality is remembered, long after the price is forgotten"
I consider this apt when considering the many thousands of dollars invested in a quality car.
The quality of products and service from MBM Wheelpower is the reason I use them.

CLK W209 is based on C-Class W203 platform. Although the W203 platform is more composed than your W211 platform, but its still a 8yrs old design afterall.

I would suggest to wait for W204 platform that will be due very soon in next year 2007.

Car-wash

Hi bros...

I was wondering whether any of you have any place to recommend who can do weekly car-wash?

I was told to try not to send my car for manual car-wash at the petrol stations because I'll end up with swirl marks, scratches, etc...

Just wax your car regularly - once a month. From my experience, wax can 'fill-up' scratches and also prevents new swirl marks.

The CLK W209 chassis is proven to handle the DTM varient and more recently the AMG55 and AMG65 along with other varients from Brabus and Carlsson, if there is to be a new chassis for the new CLK it is rumoured that it will be essentially the same as the current one.

Gents,

I had my latest mod done today at MBM wheelpower. Guess what ? The Kleemann M271 performance header is here and the lovely thing is RHD. Holy Cow, I have been waiting this for ages and is here finally. MBM has imported these headers from Kleemann and is fresh out from the oven. Cannot wait any longer.

Here are some screenshots of the header, the header comes complete with the huge high flow metallic cats with the downpipes.

The fellows from MBM did a great job on the installation of the headers. Man, the drive and the pull is awesome , the car pulls without any hesitation, back pressure is eliminated for sure. Besides, when the car surge forward at high rev, I felt the "G" and my seat belt is locked... The car doesn't behave as if it is supercharge, it pulls like a turbocharge vehicle.

I am very satisfied, one of the best mods I have I must say. Go try it out and you know what I mean !

MBM, two thumbs up for you ! Casper from Kleemann, if you are reading this thread, you guys are top-notched !

Hi SLKfans,

Your mod looks great! Wondering if you could share with me the merc model that you are driving and whether as part of the header kit, you have also installed a supercharger. MBM has quoted me for a supercharger kit including the header and the cost is quite astronomical hence my hesitation. If you know of anyone that has installed the supercharger, would appreciate if you could let me know of their experience.

Many thanks

I also had the new exhaust header and sports cat fitted by MBM yesterday, the increase in performance and response on acceleration is very impressive.A supercharger is not part of the header and cat kit.
My car is a CLK 200 as you know.
I know that MBM has fitted the Kleeman supercharger to cars in Singapore and in 1 instance a car from Malaysia was brought in to have the kit fitted.
I have actually been a passenger in 1 car after conversion, the performance was awesome.
You should bear in mind that the Kleeman conversion is a hight quality piece of engineering which comes with a 1 year warranty,as such, parts and accessories and performance upgrades manufactured to this high standard will never be cheap

I definitely dont doubt that Kleeman products are well worth the price given their high quality and reliability especially since MBM is offering a 2 year gtee compared to Kleemann's 1 year. Have u upgraded your brakes as well - I am considering upgrading to AMG brakes as the current brakes are really appalling! Would u know what the cost is to upgrade the brakes? Thanks!
