Well...

I hope some of you signed up in time for the September event. As of today, August 21st, the event is sold out. That is basically 3 weeks before the actual event!

Now, October 22nd is approaching. Currently, there is 80 spots available. It will go quick too. Here is a direct link. Please do not delay.

1. make sure your car is in good mechanical condtion to pass tech. Check those brake pads, oil, tire pressures, etc.

2. Do not run out of fuel on the track

3. Get there early, to get a good spot in the paddock, and if you see a cooler or loose equipment in a parking spot...that means it's taken

4. Take all that you can out of the car before going on track, floor mats, spare tire, tools, old empty soda cans in the back seat, glove box contents...if it isn't bolted, down, it'll go flying.

5. Make use of the "cool down lap" and take it easy. Also, after getting off the track, try to stay off the brakes and do not put on the parking brake. You could get pad deposits on your rotors, or you might even get your brake fluid to boil.

6. Watch your tire pressures all day (you have a tire guage right?)

7. Leave any pre-conceived notions of how to drive at the track at home. It's a whole different world. Learn to play nice, and you'll get fast in no time. Drive "like you stole it" and you'll be in the wall before turn 2. Also, slow in, fast out will serve you better than "super-extreme late braking." In any case, work on getting the line right as much as possible, as this will be task #1 on your first time out. Don't worry about going faster, or trying to pass as many people as possible....work on the line and your speed will come without you even knowing it.

8. Be prepared to learn! Whether it's from classroom sessions, or ride alongs...there are always going to be folks with more experience....learn from them!

9. Bring a helmet...motorcycle helmets are accepted by some organizations for first timers, but if you can get an auto racing helmet (in the latest SA spec)

10. Stay hydrated, bring snacks and eat...driving on a track is more physically and mentally taxing than you might think. Nothing hurts concentration like a lack of water, or lack of sleep from the night before.

I'll be there! I'm taking the slk55. A friend will be joining me in his EVO.
I have a pyrometer that I just bought. You can use it too if you'd like.

Here's another article "My First Day at the Track"
Look at the bottom for more articles. It's a good read.

PS, I'll send you a PM in a sec with my name and number just in case we need to contact one another.

EG,

It's a tire pyrometer. I just bought it. I haven't even used it yet. You use it in conjunction with your tire gauge to ensure tire temparatures are even across. It helps determine whether a tire needs more or less air.

Yesterday was a blast! It was my first time on Infineon. I can't explain how fun it was. This is a great course. Lots more elevation changes than I realized watching on TV. The carousel was awesome! Great place to setup a pass.

EG,
Glad to have met you. Man, I didn't realize you were going to strip down everything including all but the driver's seat! That's some dedication! I hope everything worked out for you. I assume you were able to find another belt?

Anyways, I look forward to the next event. It'a driving school at Thunderhill. Date: Sunday 10/22. Cost $225 Register here: http://www.thunderhillhpds.com/category.cfm?category=1
