1st Annual San Diego County Beer Run - 9 FEB 2007 (Friday)
Friday, February 9th 2007
We've been having so much fun on our trips to wine country in Temecula the last couple of years, we decided to try adding an (early) spring tasting of some of San Diego's many interesting local beers. Since our goal is to try some of the excellent local beers and to drive our fine German cars in the process, but NOT to drive those cars in a dangerous or illegal manner, we will be limiting our tour to three breweries, and we'll be eating a late (3:00 PM) lunch at the third one before we go home.
We're meeting on a Friday because we have had some requests for non-weekend events from members who work weekends; if you want to go and can't because of the day of the week, contact us and we will either send you complete instructions so you can do it on your or (and we're talking major sacrifice here, folks...) we'll do it all over again on a weekend. Oh my, will our willingness to help out never end ?
We recommend that you eat a large, and preferably beer-absorbing breakfast before you join us. We'll meet at the southwest corner of the VIEJAS Casino parking lot at 11:30 AM on February 9. If you are one of the six people in SD County who doesn't know where the Casino is, you can find directions at www.viejas.com; basically, exit Willows Road from the 8 Eastbound, turn left on Willows Road, and turn left again at the next stop sign. You'll see us immediately on the right. (You can bring along a bit of cash and find somewhere nearby to "invest" it if you get there early.)
From VIEJAS we'll caravan to Alpine to visit the ALPINE BREWERY, (http://alpinebeerco.com) where we'll be from about NOON to 12:45. Then we head back to San Diego to see the fabulous BREW MART and BALLAST POINT's original brewery on Linda Vista Rd., (www.ballastpoint.com) where we'll be from about 1:15 to 2:00. And then up to Escondido for lunch, a private tour, and more beer at the new STONE BREWERY and restaurant (www.stonebrew.com). We should be there by 2:30 or 2:45 depending on traffic. Their bleu cheese/blueberry/jalapeño cheesecake is amazing!! We should have you on your way home from Escondido by 5:00 PM or so.
We provided all the intermediate times so you can join us anywhere along the route... We'd love to see you, even if you don't feel like going to Alpine in the morning. Cheers, mate!

should be a good time, and i'll take some pics of the festivities and post.
You don't have to go to all 3 breweries. If you've got time to make at least one on your way back up north, you can meet us there. The approx times are listed in the first post.
