NY/NJ/PA crew...new poll for next year

I think we have a 'go' going here. Spread the word. Nobody else on the forum has done a fishing meet, ever. We can be the first. And I have the perfect anti-barf OTC meds.
Charter boats need a firm commitment however, so it will be seen if this crew can pull it off.
Who volunteers to coordinate?

There is a marina store by me actually that has stuff for fishing trips - so if you need anything, just tell me and I'll drive over.
When is all this supposed to take place ?
I must have missed the details.
Thanks!

This sounds like a great idea. I would love to go on a fishing meet - if there is anything I can do to help - let me know.

The fishing requires nothing from anybody except beer and minimal food. The boat comes with captain, mate, rods and reels, and bait. The one I generally use for private parties will do an afternoon run for any type of fish you want for a 4-5 hour timeframe. Last year's pricing was around $700 + tip for 15-20 people.

Doesn't look like much, but he knows where the fish are.
For a weekend slot, we would need to firm it early.

OK OK - so you have SOME brain activity. =)
Beer and minimal food? Thats kool. Can we also bring other booze though?
I would gladly supply the scotch...
The entrance fee of $50 more or less a person seems really reasonable as well.
If this goes through - I would very much like to be apart of it.

Out Of Control!!
Spread the word, gauge interest, herd the cats, set the location, pay the suppliers, collect the money.
A bit premature for an event 4 months away, but just a taste of the work involved.
Loads of locals who don't read this forum, and if I cross-post, I'll have to ban myself. Bimmer forum gets 100 people on a slow day, and I haven't cracked their secret.

I think in this case, Rick should take deposits so as not to find out the day of that of the "X" amount of people showing up...5 are actually taking part in the event. If a scenario like that happened - everyone would find their cost for the trip trippled.
If the boat rental and stuff costs $800 ($700 plus tip?). If 13ppl confirm, that makes it $62.00 per person.
To find out on the day of the event that only 6 are actually showing up...would increase the cost to roughly $134.00 per person.
A deposit would pretty much set in stone who is coming - and in the event they don't show - the deposit would ease the extra costs incurred by those that did show up.

Agreed. I am down with it, but my concern is everyone will bail at the last minute. The cost will be partially deflected, yes, but I still think it's unfair to absorb costs due to some flaky cats.
I would still be down with the traditional Edison meet. We aren't confined to a boat in case people get sick of one another, ya know?

Also - the idea of a boat would be nice because ... It would be awfully sweet to dump an ill wishing troublemaker overboard and bidding them Adieu.
I would still hope for a good effort on this boat outing. Lets see who is willing to put the funds up ahead of time to get this booked.
Since this is obviously one of the more expensive outtings we've ever considered, I am all for 100% down payment if that will ease everyone's mind on this. I hope everyone else will be too. I understand things come up - and it may not be intentional to miss the event after confirming, but we are all friends in real life - and in the interests of being fair - perhaps a full payment in advance should be the case here.
First we need a real honest to goodness list so we can do the math.

Here is how an event like this works... about a month before the meet, we collect money... if someone cancels then, we have the remaining time to fill the charter. If a lot of people cancel, then you cancel the meet and b!tch about it on MBW
Nello, there is hope for everyone... if those damn emo SOBs can find GFs then we all can... I was given hope when the nerdiest of co-workers told me he was married... He can barely communicate with normal humans.
Although, I'm up for some self destruction now that I'm unemployed...

A few things!
Nello - YOURE SINGLE!!! Im gone for ONE whole day and everything changes.
Chucky - Now behave yourself!! Dont be getting yourself banned again.
MG - If I go fishing..can I throw you overboard?
And for the fishing trip. I am so down. I love fishing! HOWEVER. I am your quintessential Jersey girl. I will be in one place that whole weekend if the weekend you plan to go is on Memorial. Exit 0 on the Parkway. The fam has condo at Diamond Beach down there. And the rest of the fam have houses up by Rio Grande (exit 4). And Im usually down there almost every weekend from that weekend til about mid September. (Minus the two weeks in Aug for Italy). Oh and April might be bad too.
Ok Ill help plan but my guess is that im 50% on showing up. But I can be there in spirit. Get a blow up doll and stick my face on her. But please not the **** star looking ones. I dont want to be the STRIPPER while you are looking for STRIPER

Guess what? We just found our Memorial Day location. How many spare beds do you have there?
Fishing will likely take place far in advance of Memorial Day. Spring Flounder will be in season.

Hey, I'm glad I found this thread, Please add me to the fishing trip (boat ride) and I don't mind paying upfront.
Do we have to take the fish home in our cars...?

You don't need to atke anything with you. There is always someone more than happy to take the fish off your hands (i.e. Me). Note that the boat's first mate will fillet all fish on the boat during the ride back in to the dock. He puts them into plastic bags, so if you have a small cooler in the trunk, you won't stink up your car.
Often there are even people waiting at the dock to buy fish directly from you. For them, it's the freshest fish market possible.
