AMG Performance Drive 2010
I had the opportunity to attend the AMG Performance Drive out in Irvine today. This was my first AMG test drive event. I got the chance to test drive the SL63 AMG, C63 AMG, and finally the E63 AMG. It was a fun drive going around the short race course. The (passenger seated) instructors guided everyone on their 1st lap run and also encouraged full throttle pedal mashing along the straightaway.
The exhaust note on these 63s are amazing.
Overall, I think I enjoyed the C63 AMG the most out of the 3 test cars. The C63 was very agile as compared to the other cars. The car handled very well around the course. The SL63 AMG was a monster with a huge amount of torque, but the steering felt heavy. The E63 was also fun to drive, but was not as nimble as the C63. I felt the E-AMG was well balanced with it's luxury and performance though.
I think I saw the cars of several other forum members, but didn't know what you guys look like in person to come up and introduce myself. Maybe next time.
Here are some mediocre point and shoot pictures.

hey, I was there too - I did the SL63 first, then the E and finally the C. Of the three, the SL really turned in well but I liked the C most as it felt more lively. Talking with the 'instructors', it turns out that the C is their overall fave as well as it's 600lbs lighter than the SL. The E is a bit large, but still a monster. I hit just over 100 in the SL on the back 1/4 mi straight- awesome that the copilots were really encouraging some vigorous driving.
Those DTM cars are simply incredible- unfortunately they're not street legal in the US, so whoever buys them (at $340K a piece) won't be able to register the car...
