Hi All, New here......giving thoughts to selling my new 911 for a G

Hi everyone,

Recently moved from Naples to Charlotte. I have a 2024 911, only 1600 miles and I dread driving it in Charlotte, the road surface conditions suck. Giving thought to getting another iconic vehicle...the G. Don't want the G63, Can't find a G550 inline 6, I see TONS of G580's on dealers lots everywhere and already quite a few used ones. Drove the 580, felt great but two big concerns. Poor range and they are clearly depreciating and discounting already.

My attraction to the G Class, like the 911, is low depreciation. Has anyone seen numbers on the one pay lease for 24 months? I don't do monthly payments, and I am hesitant to buy a 580 as I feel they will follow the path of the Taycan. The US for whatever reason will not embrace EV's. Possibly due to the **** poor charging network?

Thanks a ton!

I'm seeing prices on used ones staying unusually high despite the decline in demand. That can only be due to lack of competition. If people could buy a 1500 HP Xiaomi SU7 for a 100K less than a Taycan then Porsche would be forced to sell them for less. And if Magna's G-Wagon had to compete against a floating Yangwang U8 then Mercedes wouldn't be able to resell them with such a high markup. Just don't blame Joe Biden's 100% tariff! Car prices going up is Trump's fault. I heard that on TV news so you know it's true.

I don't think the new tariffs have affected car window stickers yet, I have an opportunity to buy a used G580 with less than 1000 miles that stickered at $188k for mid $160's now, and thats without me getting tough on negotiations yet, but I believe G580 prices are going to fall more, and very quickly...at least thats what my gut tells me. I wouldn't mind a 2025 G550 new or used but almost zero out there. I don't want the 2024 G550 as the inline 6 in the 2025 is more powerful and better mileage.

Unfortunately, I think the G580 will depreciate more then the other G's. I came from a Taycan Turbo, which also depreciated a ton. I'd still do it again though. It's not a 911, but here's my comparison when I got the G580 if it's helpful:

In terms of resale, the two reference points I've seen are:

BaT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...des-benz-g580/, ended at MSRP (no buyer fee)
C&B: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3LY...-eq-technology, ended at $165,500 (+$7.5k buyer fee)

Not unusual for a car to drop 10% just driving it off the lot though - maybe unusual for a G, but even the $165.5k (+7.5k C&B fee = $173k + transportation cost), doesn't seem *terrible* to me. The Taycan depreciates a lot more.

Hi Amelen,

I have decided to get a new G550 instead of the 580. The range of the 580 just is not where it should be, and the greater possibility of high depreciation is not something I'm willing to personally risk. Sure, the 550 will depreciate, but all indicators point to a more stable resale value in the 550 than the 580, and certainly the G63 is rock solid in resale.
