mb connect LTE only?

Is MB Connect . Mercedes Me app access really available on LTE only?

I don't get why the car can't connect telematics/charing information while on WiFi? I have a garage I park at that has no LTE reception, but has WiFi.
It would be great to be able to check on charing status through the app.

This seems like a weird restriction.

No, you can also tether to Wi-Fi. It's under the connection settings in MBUX. There are two Wi-Fi connections that you can set up. One for OTA updates and one for the telematics and Internet features of MBUX. I played with this in a loaner a couple of years ago. I connected it to my home's Wi-Fi and I was able to browse the Internet from the car. Couldn't try the Mercedes me features as they are typically not activated on loaners. You can also tether to a mobile phone via BT.

I've spent some time trying to debug this.

The wifi connection is active and the in-car browser works, but none of the apps work. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue? It's not a huge issue, but its very annoying that the car connects to wifi, but most of the functionality doesnt work. I'm not sure if the car is trying to default to using LTE for most of the in-car connectivity?

Spent 30 minutes on the phone with mercedes support.
At the end of the call, they admitted the car requires a cellular connection for any of the online services to work.

I asked what the point of Wi-Fi is in the car then? They had no response.
That seems like a terrible design decision that should be addressed, but i doubt it will.
