Violent vibration in the steering wheel

This is a problem that MB don't like to mention. I know of one guy who took his G500 back to the dealer and they told him that it was perfectly normal. Not so. He now drives a Porsche Cayanne Turbo.
My understanding from MB in Germany is that the panhard rod can become distorted if the G is driven hard in a circle on full lock (other things may also do it in my view). This leads to the wild vibrations when the vehicle hits the right kind of bump, not every bump will do it. The G I know of had done 30 k. It had the front steering damper and panhard rod changed and it seemed to cure the problem. The excesive road and bump feed back was still there but not the wild vibration that was there before.
MB said that the power of the G500 was too much for the panhard rod under certain circumstances (remember the first Gs were less than half the power of the 500). I am not sure if the replacement is of a stronger design or just the same as before.
However, MB having acknowledeged the problem still made this guy pay for all the repairs, hence the Cayanne.
If you have this problem the panhard rod / steering damper area is the place to start looking and the parts are not that expensive. Also tell your dealer you know that MB acknowledge this as a problem area and tell him to get onto head office in Germany.

Bentley Arnage Red Label
I had this issue a while back and the dealer replaced the rotors and steering shock and so far it hasn't happened again. I would bet yours is probably the same thing. ( I would do the steering shock first). As for your illuminated light sills, check the other Gwag site. They are way more active and a few guys have 2000 G500's and I am sure they can walk you through the removal.
