G500 order dilema, any suggestions?

G500 order dilema, any suggestions?
I placed a deposit for a G500 at my dealer on April 6th. I was #3 on their list. Two G500's they have ordered were built in October and are on the boat with an ETA of 12/1/2001. My car was originally scheduled to be built in October, but was then slipped to 11/20.
I went to my dealer today to pick up the G500 brochure and also check on the status on my order. Their info (as of 11/10) shows that my car's production date has slipped to 11/28, but unlike the other cars waiting do be built it has a VIN number already. Only built cars are supposed to VIN numbers in the system.
Soooo, does anyone know if MB ever issues VIN numbers for vehicles before their production date? The dealer is now confused and said he would look into this. I have both the P.O. number and the VIN number if that is helpful.

VIN #'s are assigned during the production cycle coded B4 (2 Days to Completion). ...RAB
