Maintaince on a GL500
Hello,
I am also planning on buying a GL500 (either 2002 or 2003). I am trying to find one with a Mercedes Benz Certified warranty but if I cant, how bad is maintainance on these things? I hear there are some electrical issues on 2002models.
I have always loved these rides but I definitely dont want to get broke spending thousands on repairs! Please advise...

You mean a G500?
Get the latest year you can get, there are many electrical problems from 2002 and 2003 I believe... might want to wait for verification though.
I believe the much older G's have more spartan interiors and were grey-market by Europa.

Nothing wrong with a grey market car. In fact, a lot of people feel those pre-2002 G500's, brought in by Europa Int'l under the blessing of MB, are better vehicles; and the selling prices on Ebay reflect that.

Imagine you spent $150,000 for a G500 in 2002 and in 2003, you could get the SAME car from MBUSA for $73,000

In 2002, MBUSA started to sell a similar - but not the same - truck for the mid $70k's. The MBUSA trucks were loaded with lots of electronic nannies, which a lot of folks don't like.
That's why, for similar mileage trucks, the Europa trucks typically get a higher price.
