Anyone have harmon/kardon option in their 2003 G-wagen?

If someone has the harmon/kardon sound system option in their 2003 G-wagen (European or US), can you please tell me where the subwoofer is installed? I suspect it's under the rear bench seat in the storage comparment that normally holds the jack, toolkit, and first aid kit. If you wouldn't mind, please post a picture of it here or send it to me via e-mail (jimmy@mac.com).

I'm having a subwoofer installed in my G500 (JL Audio 8W3v2 or 10W6v2) to add a little more life to the audio system. I want it installed somewhere that keeps it out of my way. I use my cargo area frequently when going camping or visiting Ikea, and I don't want the sub damaged by some Scandinavian furniture or a barbeque! []

G55 subwoofer

Hello jimmyg,

We have a G55 on stock with the H/K stereo upgrade.

The subwoofer is located under the rear seat a little to the drivers side. It is a flush grill in the carpet so the speaker is recessed into the floor.

Thanks...after doing some research, I can't find a "good" 8" subwoofer that will fit in that space and remain flush with the carpet. Since I do use my full cargo area from time to time, not having the subwoofer flush could cause me problems.

I've instead opted to have a custom enclosure installed above the right rear wheel well in the cargo area, and have the amp installed just above the CD changer hidden in the left wheel well.

Cool

jimmyg,

Good luck with your install.
I like the pics on your signature. It is nice to see that someone uses there Gwagon off road as it was meant to be!

HK sound system

I had the HK sound system in my new G55. Compared to the sound system in my '02 G500, the HK was definitely better. The problem is that any audio system is difficult to hear when you are on the road at speed. The wind noise is so great that it drowns out the audio! From my perspective, this make the extra $800 a real waste.

What is definitely worth the investment, when getting a new G, is the Parktronic system. It's only in the rear but that is where you definitely need it. Also the multi-contour seat is much improved over the prior driver's seat.
