2008 G500 tail lights

Hi I recently purchased a 2008 G500 and only one of the back tail lights is supposed to be on - per dealership this is the way the 2008 tail lights were designed - anyone know why ?

You're talking about the reverse warning light...that is correct. only the left one goes on in "R".

There was never a military requirement to have a reverse light. Only when the law required one did they install the light. And as long as one (total) is the requirement, the G-folks feel no need to develop two. This is typical for the G.

I may be wrong but from what I understand in Europe you need 1 fog light in the rear. That's what the left red one is for. Way back in the day I had a 911 and it had 1 rear red fog light. The 911 was "gray" market. At least this is what I've always thought.

That's my understanding too. There is a red fog light and clear higher intensity backup light in addition to the standard tailights, brake lights, etc.
