03 G55 Stuck in park! Need help!
I have an 03 G55, about 60k on it, about 5k miles ago, it started to intermittently get stuck in park. I'd press the brake, try pumping the brake, try pulling and pushing and anything else i could think off without putting too much force on the shifter and eventually, sometimes after a half an hour of this, it would pop out of park. No other symptoms at all.
I got fed up with the problem and decided to take the shifter box apart. Nothing inside was physically broken, I had heard that sometimes there's a plastic piece on other Mercedes shifters that breaks and can be removed. Apparently the G55 shifter is different. I found what seemed to be the problem. There's something that looks like a solenoid towards the rear of the shifter that when activated pushes up on a lever that releases the shifter from park. I have no idea why the solenoid isn't working or how to remedy the problem. Also, since i removed the shifter box cover, the car will not start. Even with the small 6 pin connector connected. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm a bit desperate, my warranty is up and don't really want to spend the $1400 minimum the dealer will stick me with. I'm fresh out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
