G55 Question
Hello people,
I am considering buying the G55 AMG 2010 today. I reserved one at the local dealership black with white interior, fully loaded.
However, I have a dilemma, I had test drove the vehicle in 2002 when I was also considering buying it and concluded with going for the Range Rover, which stayed with me till early this year.
The reason I didn't go for the G55 then, is the same as now ... I was worried their would be major changes in the coming years. But my fate was that the major changes came with the Range Rover and not the G55.
However, as I was reading through this forum here I have come to the understanding that in 2011, there will not be any major changes. Yet it is expected in 2012 with an engine that pushes approx. 570 hp.
Yet, my dilemma is ... How credible are the rumors for the 2012 model? If not, then how long is it expected till the next major change?

Very tough call. I personally tend to believe AutoBild article which stated:
Facelift of the front due to pedestrian safety regulation. The cars should be getting new engine line-up: G550 – twin turbo 4.6 and G63 twin turbo 5.5 (544 or 570hp).
This will be model year 2012 at the earliest, if ever. Nothing is confirmed. However, I read the production line contract with STEYR has been extended to 2015. They canot run until 2015 with current engines, so an update is likely in my view.
As G55s depreciate relatively slowly, you may just jump in 2010 now and swap it for 2012 if the update comes out. You will take a hit of maybe 20-30k but not 60k if it was something like S65 AMG…
